no, you don't get a decoration when you comply. rolleyes.gif

the RCD requirements are all available on the RYA and other websites.

if you don't know the requirements, this forum is the wrong place to ask.

You should get a Decloration of Conformity from the shell builder when you buy a new sailaway and the RCD is required on a complete boat and if you fit it out yourself you need to keep it for 5 years in order for the boat to be exempt, that's how I understand it.

Basically correct, builder declares their bit, you as finisher, declares your bit. If yours conforms to the rules, you may sell it at any time. Legally.

If your bit doesn't conform, you keep the boat for 5 years,(after it is finished, not when you bought it.) sold legally. Sell within 5 years and not conforming, sold illegally.

BSS/BSC will be needed from the day the boat is launched/licenced.

In the beginning this will only cover items already fitted, at the time of test. Later fitted items, not tested, will be of great interest to the insurers, in the event of a claim!

It would be wise to renew the BSS after, say, a gas system is fitted, despite there still being 2-3 years to run on the current certificate.

More than wise, it's compulsory. Fitting of a new gas system invalidates an existing BSS.
