it is surprising how little is needed to stop a leak in a boat, There was an 10 or 12mm hole in my barge for over a year while I was saving up for the crane to lift her. She was kept afloat with some soft rubber sheet with a block of steel on top

I think this is for sure true if you just have the one hole and it's not getting bigger. My worry, were it me, would be the reflection this has on the likely state of the rest of the hull, and other potential thin places waiting to pop at any moment.

 

very true, I knew mine was rough before I started renovating, much worse if you find out part way through refitting sad.png
