If they had not put those bloody lintels on the vee gates you wouldnt need to use the paddles and our pool wouldnt be full of silt sad.png

I understand why you wouldn't need to use the paddles, but what's causing the silting?

Now the lintels are in place the EA use the old mill race sluice to discharge water at times of high flow, the water used to go over the top of the 14' wide lock and bugger off down river no problem.

As there is more water held upstream of the lock the weir into brancey brook just above the lock is no longer big enough to cope with the volume of water. The water has to go somewhere, the only option now is to open the mill race sluice to make up for the lack of capacity since the lintles were fitted.

Another knock on problem is Islip pipe bridge, its made the lack of air draft a much greater isue than ever before

.

All of the weirs and sluices on the Nene were sized to maintain the correct river level before they came up with the bright idea of fitting lintels to many of the vee gates, its avoided the need to dredge for a while longer though......

Consequently, the EA use the mill sluice all the time now, it has scoured out the bed of the mill pool, there is a good sized shoal/bank directly behind our mooring, it makes life difficult to get in and out of our mooring and the pool n general, we draw 2' 4" and hit the shoal with ease. The top of the pool is sillted to buggery too.

We took our mooring there in 2008, its only the last 4 years that the problem has exsited and is getting steadliy worse.
