Well it is useful to know it is there.

 

But it doesn't to me see, a particularly quick way to find out what a particular functional location code actually equates to.

 

You could get there eventually of course, by finding others on the same canal, and using them to estimate the rough area for the one you are trying to translate, but you might have to look at a number of locations to find the right one.
