ID me hull

Afternoon,

"Pepper Built by Not Known - Length 13.72 metres ( 45 feet ) - Beam 1.98 metres ( 6 feet 6 inches ) - Draft 0.61 ( 2 feet ). Metal hull, power of 999 BHP. Registered with Canal & River Trust number 505635 as a Powered. Last registration recorded on Wednesday 22nd May 2013"

Two questions - if a hull survey produces a good report, does not knowing the builder matter? (Insurance, resale?)

Second, is it possible to ID a builder from pictures such as these?

Thanks all

The BW reg number suggests that it may date from the early 2000s (search on here for "Dating the BW plate"), in which case there should be a Hull Identifiction Number (HIN), consisting of some letters and a string of digits. If you can find that, that should identify the builder of the shell.

Somebody might recognise the shell builder.

If the survey is good then no reason to think it is any better or any worse than hundreds of other "clone craft" boats out there. A good builders name may add some value, but it doesn't matter for a middle of the road boat like this.

Didn't stop to consider reg numbers might work like that - though it seems a bit of a muddled system. I would agree it does look to be early 2000s though in this case.

Thanks

The system is muddled, and it doesn't follow that the age of a boat is the same as the date it was first registered on BW/CRT waters. My point was that if it is really manufactured that recently then there should be a HIN indelibly marked on it, and the HIN will tell you the shell builder. Someone will probably be along shortly to remind me when HINs became compulsory, older boats don't have them.
