Stolen gearbox from Gardner 6 LX

Giant

Featured Posts

The gearbox from a Gardner 6 LX has been stolen within the last 48 hours from Barking.

Other large bits of metal nearby weren't taken, so we suspect they may have known what it was rather than just looking for scrap metal to sell.

If you're offered or see one for sale in the near future treat with suspicion - also let me know and I can put you in touch with the rather frustrated owner who was due to have it craned in on Monday.

It's not the first time that sort of thing has happened. The gearbox on a Lister engine was stolen from a boat on our moorings when I moored above Stockton locks. Thinking abut it at the time it ocured to me that as the engine and gearbox were under an unlocked cruiser deck, it is surprising that it does not happen more often.

Not likely to come across it oop North, but indicating what sort of gearbox it was might increase your chance of it turning up.

For what it's worth I'm told it was a Gardner 2UC, and not the DD version.

This will sound a bit odd but was it close to the waterside? Is there a vague chance it could have been pushed in by vandals for a 'splash' ?

This happened to a friends generator once.

They would have had to carry it several metres and then over a small wall. Had someone just wanted to cause trouble there were plenty of easier options.

This was in a semi-secure area, not by a public towpath.
