BMC 2.2 Oil pressure relief valve nut size ??

Ok, I think I might have a 1/2" spanner in the shed to try. Also what I noticed, was that the plug (bolt) head was rounded with the socket hape raised in the center. This then only seems to give about 2 to 3mm to fit a socket. Is this right or should the plug head be a proper bolt shape ??

I guess you may find a copper washer/seal (compressible) under there.

I would wait until someone that does know what is there and the size before investigating any further.

Edit: just had a google and yes there is 'special' washer link so I would not do anything until I had one.

This may be completely wrong but from nearly 50 years ago:

I remember we had to undo something on a 2.2 that was a plug with a (5/8AF) female hole in it. This may have been the oil pressure relief valve. We brazed/welded an old injector pipe nut to a length of bar for a key.

The other thing is since this thread was posted I keep getting a vision of a large slightly domed "bolt head" about 1" AF but that may be from cars. I would expect it to be on the same side of the engine as the oil filter.

Yes tony, it is a slightly domed "bolt head", im not sure what Daltons lookings at. The oil relief valve on a 2.2 is directly under the oil filter bracket. I've ordered a 1" AF socket of the web so hopefully that will fit.
