I am thinking of replaceing my starter with a new one. Or should I rebuild my own one?

Is it a DIY job??

They're not difficult to overhaul providing the armature is ok and you can get any parts you need, like brushes, solenoid contacts ect. Probably best to drop it in at a starter motor-alternator reconditioner though. If its slow and down on torque it could just be worn, dirty or sticking brushes and dirty commutator .
