Does anyone have any further information on this report:

10:57am

A narrowboat just north of Godstow Lock broke from its moorings and swept down the River Thames before smashing into the bridge by the Trout pub and sinking out of sight overnight

It has been reported on the Oxford Mail web site

The news is that the owner wasn't on board, fortunately.

There are four boats where this one was. One came loose a few days ago but they managed to pull it in and everyone was saying how lucky this boat was to be moored where it was as it wasn't likely to be going anywhere and lo... it has floated off and sunk. Fortunately the owner was away and wasn't on the boat when it broke its moorings.

The owner is now sorting it all out. A bit of a nightmare but fortunately no-one has been hurt.

At least there was now one on board and they're not recovering a boat and a body.

We're not having a lot of luck in the Oxford area recently. Two fires recently and this is the second boat that I know of that has broken loose and sunk due to the flooding

:(

Thank God nobody was on it; what a horrendous experience that would have been.

Absolutely. Pretty unlucky thing to happen but also a very lucky thing too that he wasnt on board!!!
