I can say, with some authority, that in these circumstances a cassette is far preferable to a pump-out and a portapotti is even better.

Now that the Ouse is (pretty much) back to normal levels this picture nicely illustrates how high it was. It's strange, but what's left behind afterwards is almost more striking than when the river is actually at that level. The York Boat gives a handy sense of scale for the height (and quantity) of debris piled up on the bridge pier (it's the railway bridge upstream from Lendal).
