David Walliams is undergoing Tests For Weil's Disease.

Apparently he has been ill since swimming the length of the Thames for charity

and is currently in hospital unable to walk from unbearable cramps.

Leptospirosis or Weil's Disease can be fatal, so lets hope he gets well soon.

Caught early enough and being fit help in fighting it off.

Let's hope he is one of those that do recover fully and quickly.

A lot also depends on what if anything he has been treated for so far - it normally manifests itself as flue like symptoms at which point it is commonly misdiagnosed - given what he has been doing over recent days it should have been obvious what it could have been and hopefully tested for and diagnosed promptly.

I did wonder at the time when he was struggling with ailments and upset stomach, surely it wasnt brain surgery to assume he was at risk when exposed to such filthy conditions for so long :banghead:

Interestingly it never popped up at the time as a possibility - it all seemed to be being put down to the issue of excess human sewage in the river rather than the prospect that he had been made ill by animal urine in there...

I understand that there is an incubation period of around a week for Weil's disease, so it's not likely to have been responsible for the symptoms he had so soon after starting the swim. If he's ill now, though, then it's a possibility.

I understand it's 4 to 14 days -

The swim took 8 days and I think he was approx half way through when he became un-well, though I'm open to correction on that.

Yes I didnt mean they should have thought he had it at the time, but was liable to contract it eventually because of the long exposure to filthy water over a few days. to be honest I,d be suprised if he hadnt caught something nasty after such an intense exposure, where were his advisers? the mind boggles

I was wondering why the BBC has apparently not decided to run this story, despite it being plastered over other sites relating to the tabloid press.

Sky News now reports he is not being tested for Weil's Disease.....

Sky News linky.

Very curious.

Some may have considered his actions foolhardy, but I'm very much hoping that version is the correct one.

The Sun had reported he was being tested for the potentially fatal Weil's disease, a waterborne condition.

News International get's it very wrong again. I would say...

Dandy or Beano anybody?
