Bottom Blackened

Help a confused sole.

 

I'm taking Empire to have its bottom blacked on Wednesday. A first for me.

My question is why do we say Bottom Blackened or Blacked when the bottom isn't Blacked it's the side?

I hope I'm not talking Bo*"!-cks. I did say it was my first time :huh:

It's a relatively new description which has crept in.

Used to be that you had the boat blacked. Maybe that idea creates a frightening vision for people with expensively painted shiny cabin sides :o

Thanks Tim, I was begining to think it was a secret. I shall use the term Boat Blacked from now on.

Took me an age to get through the ice (another first, and such a strange feeling) but here he is out and started.

Hope you don't plan to cruise any more until the ice has finished.or it will all be stripped off again.Lovely looking boat if i may say so.
