This is a Q for those who are in the know on central heating plumbing on boats using a back boiler.

What does the central heating system consist of when using a back boiler on a stove, what will i need to set one up to run of a boiler of no specific stove for a single radiator, are they pressured systems or open vented etc etc .

All advice welcome as always

wayne

One radiator?

It will need to be a very small boiler or a very large radiator.

Boiler needs to match radiators output or the other way round.

So for a radiator of 18 inch x 24 inch what size boiler would i need?

thanks for that info mate.

I'm guessing that if you can only accommodate one radiator, and that is the maximum size, you would struggle to find a small enough back boiler, as that rad will not be able to dissipate the heat fast enough ?

Obviously a double panel radiator, with finning, would dump heat faster than an unfinned single panel of the same size, but I still feel it would not be enough.

I'm happy to be told I'm wrong though, as I've never tried it!

Info gained from Screwfix:

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/37677/Plumbi...mm-1743Btu-511W

As you can see this is rated at 511 watts (½Kw)

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/49023/Plumbi...tor-600-x-400mm

and this one at 380 watts (⅓ Kw)

Now I am not a heating engineer but even with losses in the system, I suspect that a boiler of 1000 watts (1 Kw) would be to big.

Willing to be corrected obviously.

So then, what size boilers do you have on your stoves, and what/how many rads do you have, i am on palnning to make my own boiler so i can make it what ever size ai need, if it needs to be a size that wont work fair enough but no harm in trying.

Could even do under floor heating, will take more heat out of the system

Remember underfloor heating requires a lower water temperature than radiators, mainly due to warping the floor..

Wasnt serious mate. , my god imagine walking on a radiator LOL
