River Slea Boat Gathering

As we are Trust members and now Smudge has been asked to be on the committee, I thought I'd put this on here and try and drum up some support, and maybe a bit of a banter!

We usually just have a gathering in the village of South Kyme but as everyone has been working so hard to get bottom lock totally refurbished it was agreed that we'd have a bit of a party. Every year the boaters take on the villagers at carpet bowls, which probably sounds a bit dull, but we joined in last year and had a brilliant laugh (needless to say we were crap!) The Hume Arms has just been reopened in the village, it's a large pub that does good meals and have always been welcoming to the boaters. The village also has a scarecrow competition which is judged by the boaters, and their imagination is rather strange to say the least.

All in all a good time and loads of beer consumed so I thought I'd get it on here early so you can all plan your summer around it!

There are some strange characters live and work here abouts....

Oh don't talk about yourself like that Neil.... you're not THAT bad!

We can't get the boat there - but maybe we could drive there

Of course you can.

We might even be able to find you somewhere to kip!

You never know we might meet some of you up there. Only a few hours from where we are moored. Will probably see you there.

What is your air draught?

Think you'll probably get through the flood gates at Chapel Hill and under the guillotine gate at bottom lock but several bridges on the Slea/Kyme Eau were rebuilt whilst the navigation was abandoned and are seldom cruiser friendly. Is doubtful you'll get further than the B1395 bridge at Clay Bank Road, though if you get this far you will only be yards from the centre of activities.

clicky

The map is wrong here btw, the navigation actually runs between, and parallel with High St. and Low Road.

6' 4" with the radar arch down.

Its not a problem. A friend of ours took one up there a couple of years ago with inches to spare.
