Haulage from Warickshire to Ireland

I have been given a ball-park figure of £2000 by Tuckeys. That was last year before the price of diesel shot up.

"I suppose cruising is more limited?"

Not really - you can get from Eniskillen in the North to Dublin, Athlone, Limerick, Waterford in the Republic - which just about covers the whole length of the island.

Hi all,

I am seeking a haulage company to transport my 60ft barge from Warickshire to Ireland, late July. If you can pass on info much appreciated.

cheers Barossa.

our barge is hopefully being delivered middle to end of august not to sure yet if i will change transport company in england and get another firm to deliver to ireland i will be phone bashing soon so will let you know how i get on. if your barge is wider than 10 feet and weigh more than 30 ton things start to get costly due to trailer size and wide load rules.for a 60 -10wide beam you could be looking at quotes ranging 3-5 thousand sterling and dont forget cranage . the ferry companies charge a huge amount .keep ringing around and you might get a back load good luck if i can help anymore just ask away . ps. does anyone know if a haulage company has to pay vat if it picks up in another eu country and delivers to a different eu country without off loading in its own country. ie. polish firm picks up in chek and delivers to ireland is vat applicable on the transport costs

I havnt got a copy to hand, but this question was asked in the readers letters of the current Canal Boat magazine. The response mentioned an Irish company rather than the very well know Tuckeys.

You should get in touch with Frank Whitten of Whitten Haulage, Birr, County Offaly. tel 0509 31022 (00 353 509 31022 from UK). Discuss a price with him before committing yourself to anyone else.

They specialise in transporting boats and have a range of boat trailers including trombone trailers. They usually have one of their trucks over in England, which saves money, as the trailer is put onto the ferry without the truck, and picked up by another of their trucks at the Irish end.

Here is a pic of a boat on its way to Ireland being craned onto one of their trailers at Cassio, GU.
