Chris-B Posted October 9 Report Posted October 9 We are thinking about next year updating and modifying the heating system on the boat Currently we have a sf stove with two rads on a thermal convection system Long term we would like a standalone stove in the lounge area and fit a planar 5kw wet heater ( which we already have in stock ) I have no problems with the fitting of any pipe work, calorifier etc on the LH side of the boat as per the ( amateur) drawing But I would also like to run a either 22 or 15 mm copper pipe loop on the opposite side of the boat to keep a background heat in wardrobe , cupboards and under the bed to eliminate cold spots / condensation Can I just T this of off the main run or do I need to fit a valve / reducer Many thanks Chris ( very much in planning as we’re warm this winter lol )

jim mitchell Posted November 29 Report Posted November 29 Unless you want to be able to use the 'background loop' and radiators 1-5 seperately why not simple cut the return pipe from the radiators (about the location of rad 2 on your sketch and add the loop into the return leg - effectively just extending the pipe work run, afterall the returning water will still be hot enough for background heating. If you lag the pipe lengths to suit then the heat will largely escape wherever you leave the lagging off. that way, one pipe size, just one pipe to cut into and aside from leaks no balancing of legs or T with valves.
