Yes, even allowing for the fact that it was back in 2007 I also have my doubts that it was a full on refurbish.

 

Update - following all the advice on here (thanks to all), I'm going to have it checked out to see the extent of the damage is and then take it from there

Just make sure that whoever checks it uses a straight edge and feelers to check both the head and block for distortion. No point in fitting a new gasket if the block has a sunken area.
