Painting a bare steel flue pipe

I'm going to use a can of stove spray paint to paint a new bare steel flue pipe. The instructions on the can say to prime where appropriate, so what sort of primer should be used as the instructions don't elaborate?

Just use panel wipe to remove any grease or oil from cutting, then use the stove paint direct.

Ok thanks, that's what I was going to do before I read the instructions. There's quite a lot of cutting fluid on the pipe so I'll degrease it with white spirit, give it a good surface key, wipe it over again and spray the stove paint on direct.
