2 month hire - where to go ?

Rob - you’re not confusing the pound I mean with the pound where Red Bull services are - that one is often full and is time limited.

No, I don't think so.  Red Bull pound is usually full which was why I said if there is a space it may be worth stopping.  The long pound before the tunnel was also a near continuous line of boats last time we came through.  I had to run water down as there was a hire boat aground below the lock as the levels were significantly down and there were a few moored that told me I couldn't run water down as I would leave the pound low with all the boats in.  I ignored them, ran enough water down to get the hire boat afloat.

We finished yesterday, leaving the boat with Rose at 9:00am. Completed 476 miles and 369 locks.

 

We had a great time, enjoying just about every moment. Stratford, Chester, Blake Mere and Braunston amongst the highlights. Ashby canal was a bit of an effort - shallow and winding. 99% of the people we met were very friendly, only a tiny minority were annoying and irritating. Interestingly, the least friendly seemed to be the people on the traditional crafts with the 'chuff-chuff' engines and triangular canvas covers on the boat, but just an opinion of course. Without exception everyone in the boat-yards and marinas that we visited were overwhelmingly friendly and helpful - going out of their way to make us feel welcome. 

 

It was superb - best 2 months ever !
