  1. We had a couple of Brompton folding bikes, stored them inside when we were not riding them. Send you a message
  2. Yes, Rose do long term hires : We took Joey for two months last year - fabulous ! Our trip Thanks Andrew
  3. We just finished a 9 week hire with Rose narrowboats Andrew
  4. Here she is, not sure if this is a current advert or not (I'm guessing not), but looks like a serious project !
  5. We finished yesterday, leaving the boat with Rose at 9:00am. Completed 476 miles and 369 locks. We had a great time, enjoying just about every moment. Stratford, Chester, Blake Mere and Braunston amongst the highlights. Ashby canal was a bit of an effort - shallow and winding. 99% of the people we met were very friendly, only a tiny minority were annoying and irritating. Interestingly, the least friendly seemed to be the people on the traditional crafts with the 'chuff-chuff' engines and triangular canvas covers on the boat, but just an opinion of course. Without exception everyone in the boat-yards and marinas that we visited were overwhelmingly friendly and helpful - going out of their way to make us feel welcome. It was superb - best 2 months ever ! Thank you, everyone, for your helpful comments and advice. Cheers Andrew ! The journey : https://www.mcguiness.co.uk/?page_id=794

    Ashby Canal

Hi, We have just started on the Ashby, moored at Hinckley - does this mean that CRT might possibly close the canal ? To be honest, it was rather hard going, and the water levels look very low Thanks Andrew
  7. Thanks John - that is an excellent suggestion. Also, I seem to have misread the map, and the Red Bull is only a couple of locks away so that is back on the table as an option. So, Blue Bell or the Red Bull - two choice - thanks everyone and apologies for making a mistake about the number of locks 😟
  8. Hello again everyone, We are still on our 2 month jaunt, now almost exactly half way through. We are on the Middlewich branch, aiming to go through Middlewich tomorrow (unless we decide that the Folk and Boat festival is for us) and go south down the Trent and Mersey. I see that we will have to go through the Harecastle tunnel after a day or two. According to a CRT volunteer at Grindley Brook, as long as we turn up between 8am and 12pm we don't need to book. So our plan is to moor at the Red Bull in Church Lawton but this leaves us 12 locks to do before we reach the entrance - this would probably mean a very early start to get there before noon. Is there any other way to do this - the early start doesn't worry us, but it would be a shame if there was an easier way ? Thanks Andrew This is a travelogue of our voyage
  9. Just went past that cottage on the Llangollen and chatted to the owner - it looked a lovely property and she was very chatty and pleasant.
  10. Thanks for everyone's input. By the time we got to the Shroppie, it had been opened again - but we stopped at Napton anyway and had an ice-cream Thanks Andrew
  11. Hello again everyone. We are currently moored in Wolverhampton after battling the weed infested canal between Tipton and here Not sure I would bother coming back to Wolverhampton again, even at the mooring the music from the nearby pub is deafening Anyway, at a lock a person mentioned to me that there had been, sadly, a fatal stabbing in Pendeford on the Shropshire Union canal, and the canal was currently closed while to police do underwater searches. HERE. I have checked the CRT stoppages, but it isn't mentioned - does anyone know if we will be able to get onto the Shropshire Union tomorrow at Autherley Junction ? Thanks for all your help so far, you have been tremendous Andrew
  12. Hello again everyone, well Stratford was a great success, although we didn't go onto the Avon in the end. We are now in Shirley, south of Birmingham (after having to call CRT about a broken lock just out of the basin in Stratford) and plan to go to Gas Street Basin tomorrow for a day or two - hopefully there will be space to moor. After there we will be going north onto the Shropshire Union via Wolverhampton - am I right in thinking that a) Brum to Wolves is an easy 1 day cruise b) It is OK to moor in the centre of Wolverhampton before we tackle the 21 locks out of Wolverhampton ? Many thanks Andrew ps This is a travelogue of our voyage
  13. That is an excellent idea - thank you !!
  14. Thanks for all the advice, we managed to moor in the basin without crashing or sinking - so a victory for us. Looking forward to spending a couple of days here, sadly there is no show at the RSC until Tuesday evening, and we will have to leave by 4pm on the Tuesday, our 48 hours will be up - oh well, maybe next time. Thanks again Andrew
  15. Hi all, we have started our journey, and have a quick question. Bancroft basin in Stratford - how easy it is to get a mooring there for 24 hours in the next couple of days ? And if we did get to the basin and found it full, is it possible to turn there ? Thanks Andrew
