Diesel, I'm pretty sure. Petrol is a bit of a no-no in Hm Ships - any they do carry lives on the upper deck in racks which allows the containers to be jettisoned from positions both locally and remotely.

There was an old fire pump at Bradford Wharf, which had not been run for years, it had a two cylinder Coventry engine in it, and one day we decided to try and get it running. It did eventually start but stopped after a few minutes and refused to re-start, probably because of dirty fuel which was probably more than ten years old. Someone eventually took it off our hands.
