Disappearing water

On the Macclesfield, north of the stoppage at Bollington. Was full on Sunday, we had lots of rain of course, but has been dropping an inch each day since then. This is a shallow canal at the best of times but 5 inches down it's difficult to get to the side and deep draughted boats will struggle to move. Apparently the coal boat is stuck this morning.

Consider this: Stoppage at Bollington which prevents the supply reservoirs at Sutton and Bosley replenishing the water. Toodbrook closed of course. So, no water coming in but Marple locks are open. It seems that CRT haven't employed their best brains with this. Close the locks at the very least, surely?

Toddbrook might be closed but Combes Reservoir should be more than enough to supply the limited use of Marple Locks at this time of year.

Maybe, but there's a stoppage on the Peak Forest east of the locks. Assuming stop planks are in, the locks and the pound down towards Bollington are receiving no water.

And of course they are dredging between High Lane and Marple which will add to the dropping of the level although what effect that will have on what is perhaps a 10mls stretch between stoppages i dont know. Suppose it all adds up. We came down from Marple to Higher Poynton today and it was a bit sluggish and few boat leaning over where normally mooring is okay.
