Hello - apologies if I am asking for an answer 100s provided! I have currently a flat (and trashed!!) starter battery. Its done, finished, we shall not see her again.... I am wondering why it has failed though, and thinking of my alternator. Before I buy a new starter battery, does anyone have any troubleshooting steps I can take to see if my alternator has packed it in as well (and is the reason to the failure!). AS a sidenote, I am currently relying on a jump from my leisure rig to start my engine as I am in the middle of a cruise back to my home river(s)... Could anyone advise on how long this is an option for until I risk damaging my leisure batteries? Thanks so much

Hey guys, I've got an issue with my solar system. At the moment, I can leave my solar panel charging for 2 days, even with sun, and it won't go over about 70%. Even that will only last 2 hours watching tv or running 1 laptop. I'm now not sure if I got a controller that's too cheap (eBay job), if I don't have enough batteries, (2 x 110amp leisure batteries with 2 more on standby), or whether the panel isn't powerful enough (Highly doubtful) Maybe I might have not set up the controller properly such as setting the cut off voltage etc but I'm not sure what the settings should be. A (poorly drawn) diagram of my setup: If anyone has any advice on what I can try, I would be eternally grateful.

I usually charge my batteries using solar. Occasionally I find myself staying in places with large buildings and, especially in the winter, I notice my batteries aren't getting topped up enough. I have a generator but do not want to damage the batteries by using a rubbish charger. What would people suggest. Generator claims to be 1000W and I have 3no 110A leisure batteries I want to charge. Thanks!

Hi. I'm sure this is a topic that comes up repeatedly but need advice. Bought my narrowboat nearly 2 months ago. Power set up was working well. Solar panels charging batteries seemingly well. Lots of sun etc. This last week I noticed that the batteries weren't charging. See pic attached. Would this suggest the leisure battery is kaput? The investor is also telling battery is low so I think that's an obvious clue 😂 I had been able to keep things going by running the engine for a bit but I work away from my boat everyday and so can't do this consistently. Came back late last night to find it was completely flat. Any advice welcome. Ps 1 I have no experience when it comes to electrical maintenance so I ain't messing about with that! Ps 2 pic taken in the early hours of this morning but it's been the same alert at midday during very hot weather.

Hi all, I am looking to replace my leisure batteries as I would like more capacity. I currently have 2 105ah and would like to know if there would be any advantage to using 3 smaller ah or 2 larger ah to reach around 400ah, 2 would be easier due to space available? for info, my only charge source is a single 100 amp alternator for the starter, bow thruster and leisure batteries, not sure if this has any impact on the way to proceed.

Hi guys. My boat is a bit dead, currently in a Marina for the first time. I have mains electricity, what a treat. My 3 leisure batteries have died. My 3 solar panels are still functional. I assume starter battery is dead. The engine for the sake of this conversation is dead too. It may be revived one day. But not in near future. The 12v circuit has to deal with: *1 water pump to pump water heated by the morso to the radiator *1 water pump for shower, and kitchen and bathroom taps. * LED ceiling lights. All other things, fridge, phones, TV etc can come from Mains. So in summary, No engine, functioning solar panels and available mains hook up, but no functioning leisure batteries. What are my options for a an all year round electric supply ? What do I need to buy? How many? What do I need to install? Thanks Mart
