  1. Hello, Does anybody know if it's possible to adjust the software settings of a Webasto? I have just finished installing a new Webasto Thermo Top Evo 4 (4kw) in my boat connected to 3 radiators and calorifier. It is a direct replacement for an old noisy Eberspacher d5w (5kw). It became apparent that the Eber was too big for the install, constantly cycling on and off. I have fired up the Webasto and it works great and it's so much quieter. However I have now realised that, having bought an automotive version, it is timed to cut off after 1 hour. It also seems that the water output is not as hot as the old Eberspacher. I was told by a dealer that the output difference of a 4 and 5kw heater would be barely noticeable. Just wondering if it is possible to adjust the settings to make it into a "Marine" version, either by myself or by a dealer. I have a computer interface and software on order. Thanks!
  2. Hi there! I’ve just moved onto a boat with a webasto system (well an MV hydro 5-S) for some reason it cuts out after a minute or 2. The heating system runs through all open radiators and hot water. I leave 1 radiator open and it starts to warm up but the hot water won’t turn on! The pump and battery amps are fine. Does anyone have any advice how to fix it? If not, does anyone know a mechanic or engineer who would be able to come and have a look? I’m currently moored in Harefield. Thank you!
  3. hi all can we use one of these on our NB safely? http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/mini-heater-hose-and-reg-p162735 we have a problem with the back of the boat never warming up, even when our stove makes most of the boat pretty toasty. we're thinking of getting some existing and currently redundant rads joined up to a combi boiler or webasto/eberspacher, but want something to keep the chill off our bedroom and bathroom in the meantime for short periods of time (maybe an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening). if something like this is no good could someone suggest an alternative?? cheers! mike
  4. HI, I'm trying to work out the kilowatt input rating for a paloma water heater. Unfortunately it's out of the boat so I don't have the plate to hand immediately... but... it's one of the 'old looking' ones with the red stripe on the front and paloma in shiny metal. White enamelled. I've found a manual which suggests it might be 635 btu/minute, which I think converts to 11kw. But that sound like rather a lot. Does anyone know what the 'normal' old school boat paloma takes in kw? Trying to work out how many vents I need to install in the re-fit! Cheers, Patrick
  5. Hello sailors Please can someone offer advice? After two failed ebay purchases one new refurbished and one supposedly brand new heater I have decided to put my hand in my pocket and buy this heater from a reputable supplier. Has anyone recently purchased an eberspacher that worked in the UK? It's the D5WSC 12v heater I require I'd appreciate all advice available Thanks in advance Saima
  6. I’ve had my boat from new, built by stoke on Trent boatbuilders in 1998 and fitted with eberspacher which ran well but finally failed. Decided to replace it with Webasto as it is more modern with good reputation. New heater installed by Stokeboats and connected to existing plumbing system . ( pipe work, radiators, calorifier etc.) heater starts and puts some heat into system but then shuts down. Diesel feed has been bled as well as water system. System incorporates header tank and is identical to system when Eberspacher was fitted, in fact only the final connections from pipewok to heater was changed. Any ideas please ???? PaulGH
  7. Dear Forum, First post! We are fitting out our boat and want to replace the solid fuel stove for a diesel heater. Lockgate/Morso Squirrel and Kabola Old dutch seem to be our favourites in terms of design and I hear they are both reasonably reliable. Problem: I can't find a single chandlery, place, person who sells them. Lockgate is not responding Kabola.nl doesn't list them kuranda marine - kabola's distributor in UK - only list the OD7 which seems a bit much for our 40ft as it has 7kw. Could anyone advise where to get either of the above? I am leaning towards the Old Dutch 4. So I would be super happy if someone could point me in a directin. Thank you Forum. Phelan
  8. Hello, We have just put a deposit down on our first narrowboat and although its are very exciting, its a little daunting so we am looking for some advice. It currently has a Eberspacher hot air heater under the bed - does anyone know about these, is it worth keeping? This is what the surveyor said An Eberspacher D1L hot air heater was installed under the double berth in the forward cabin. There was a thermostat and control unit in the cabin. Ducting was no longer connected to vents and some joins in ducting had been made with duct tape. Recommendation Either decommission Eberspacher hot air heater or commission a qualified engineer to inspect the heater and its installation prior to its use. We are just wondering whether its worth keeping hold of and getting serviced or whether we should just get rid of it? Also any recommendations for an electrican and also a gas engineer in london would be very much appreciated. Thanks for your time. Emily & Juan
  9. I've had a search of threads but have come up with several answers. I'm wanting to fit the exhaust for the Webasto, I have the appropriate skin fitting but my options for where it goes are either below the rubbing strake (centered 15cm above water line) or above the rubbing strake (centered 30cm above the water line). Looking at various other holes in the side (skin fittings) that I have already, they vary from not a lot upwards - I think depending on what happens with them inside the boat (I read about lesser height rules if it goes in a strong hose, traveling upward). But as this is an exhaust, I thought not too far up the side might be good for avoiding smelling the fumes? Hole saw on standbye
  10. Erbespacher problems, any experts out there? Have a D5-WSC and after running for varying times it just cuts out. The timer seems to be ok. There are fault codes 52 and 30 showing, have seen what they mean but they add little. If I switch off the heater and turned it back on it works ok then again shuts off at varying time intervals....any ideas?
  11. Hello everyone, I have attempted to fix my webasto Thermotop C, and I thought I had managed it. However, there's still a problem. I am pretty broke so would really appreciate any input on how I can fix it as I can't really afford to get a new one, or someone to fix it professionally. I just gave it a full service and cleaned the combustion chamber, but the problem still persists. What happens is: I turn the heater on, it seems to be working fine for about two minutes, then it goes into extreme overdrive. It squeals as loud as it possibly can and won't shut up until about a minute after I turn it off. I was wondering whether it was the gasket as I had to use the same gasket after servicing. It's broken in pieces but I arrange it back in it's place until I can get to a marina and buy another. Thanks ever so much for reading, hopefully I can get this fixed as a new one is a fortune. Regards, Jamie
