  3. Just got back.....fantastic. What a lovely waterway, mind you the weather made it....hot sun...just had to have pub stops. Went down the Ribble link, saw two terrapins sunbathing in Preston !!! We went down the Glasson Branch, that was great it was like being it the seaside!!!! Thanks for all the advice for pubs...managed to try most of them....loved the Water Witch in Lancaster...fab beer (couple of pints of Flaming Nora!!) and great food Paula XX
  4. Buccaneer Thanks for the link, it will be useful. In previous years I have downloaded a permit and attached to my bike. I must get round to it this year. Hopefully there shouldn't be too much of a problem as regards access. Paula XX
  5. Carrie...yeah..hi its good to be back!!! Paula XX
  6. Thanks for this guys....I'll print off your replies and take them with me. I've walked the upper section....beautiful... but never done the Preston/Lancaster bit hence the cycling. Don't think I'll ever get the boat up there....mind you, you should never say never. Lets hope the weather is good and the towpath not too bumpy Paula XX
  7. I'm going to spend the last weekend in May cycling from Preston to Lancaster, yes I know its not that far, but I do like to take my time and stop at pubs for a long lunch has anyone got advice such as good/bad pubs, places to stay, places to visit? Hope you guys can help Paula XX
  8. Badger I take your point about dogs on towpaths and again thats down to responsible ownership. I'm sure most dog owners reading this site would keep their dogs under control, but for Jack to be on the boat all day and then walked on a lead in the evening, there is no chance for him to burn off that terrier energy. I do think people should be given the given to exercise their dogs in a controlled manner. Paula XX
  9. I've spoken to the Council and they say it is being done under some long standing By-Law. As I say BW didn't seem to know much about this Paula XX
  10. Hi guys Its been a while since I've been on here so forgive me if this has already been mentioned. I've just found out that Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council has proposed various measures to control dogs in public places. I agree with some of their proposals, but it clearly states that dogs must be kept on a lead at all times when on BW land!! No more long walks down the towpath with Jack Dog!! I know this is only Crewe and Nantwich, but I know of other areas where this may happen. Lots of us have dogs on boats and they enjoy a good run down the towpath. I can't afford a £1000 fine. I've just rung BW at Northwich who know nothing about this order!!!! Please go on www.crewe-nantwich.gov.uk select Your Council followed by Consultation Please contact jan.griffiths@crewe-nantwich.gov.uk to express your concerns Please ring BW at Northwich 01606 723800 and find out their reasoning behind this. Sorry to have a rant, but I feeel that this is really important, it may happen in your area!! Thanks for your support. Paula XX

  13. I've used the avon product......works fantastic, but I was told it had to be the green one...its that smell that works....don't know how true that is...only ever tried the green one. Paula XX
