  1. I would think either a fox or maybe a dog. Unless you believe those 'big cat' sightings
  2. Agree with muntjac Maybe your cat has just been scared off? Cats have an uncanny knack of disappearing and ignoring all attempts at calling them and vigorous biscuit shaking at the exact same moment you start worrying about them. Hope your moggie is home soon.
  3. We've changed half of the cabin lights to LED - we weren't happy with the spotlights we chose, so they're going back to be swapped and will be changed in a couple of weeks. Impromptu sink unblocking - amazed any water had managed to pass through the pipes, they were so clogged and to say they were smelly is an understatement. Cleaned and waxed the runners on both sliding hatches - no longer need a tractor to drag them closed! Not sure how well the wax will last as it was just a scented candle. Any other suggestions of what we could use would be welcome. Made up a couple of really ugly fenders just to get us through the next couple of weeks, but had a chance to practice my rope splicing. It needs more practice! Half finished my practice rope fender and ordered 'proper rope' to make some real ones.
  4. Bike has had a few miles put on it this weekend and performed well (better on the roads than tow path) and now hidden away on the boat ready for it's next adventure
  5. That sounds just like mine. I took one back (Curry's) and got a full refund after telling them Nespresso had declared it faulty. The other (cheap one) went to the OH's site office. Aldi have them in stock again, 50 quid each. They'll be reduced in a few weeks though I'm pretty happy with the Aldi machine - it leaks far less than my home machine
  6. I'm sure you've all been in the edge of your seats awaiting an update to my coffee machine/quasi sine wave inverter woes. Apologies for maintaining the suspense levels, but you'll be delighted to hear we now have a machine that works on our boat and my caffeine levels have been restored. I followed Dave Payne's suggestion of buying a cheaper and therefore potentially less complex machine. £35 quid in the sale in Aldi and I have a reliable source of good strong coffee, morning, noon and night, even without the engine running. Thanks for all your thoughts and suggestions, very much appreciated
  7. Sellers market. We started looking last summerand found we were very much at a disadvantage, with boats we set it to see that morning sold by the time we arrived. The boat we bought was a fixed price with no negotiation as he wasn't desperate to sell and knew he'd get that price at some point.
  8. There are a number of options for recycling capsules - Starbucks and Nespresso are the two I use
  9. I assumed the existing BSS would cover us? Just made a phone call and it seems not! Now on the case
  10. This is something that I am questioning - my old machine is a Krups, the two new ones are Magimix. We'll not have a chance to test it for another 3-4 weeks, but taking the others back (If the old machine doesn't run on the boat, then I'd end up with 3 machines at home!) and looking into alternatives for my caffeine fix as I'm not convinced Himself will be wanting to get me an alternative boat or new inverter just to run my Nespresso!
  11. As stated on another thread, we've just picked up our new purchase, an ex hire boat. Three fire extinguishers, one fire blanket but no smoke detector nor a carbon monoxide detector! We have been handed the BSS report but a quick glance doesn't throw up these omissions. I would have thought the boat to be saftied up to the hilt!
  12. I've suggested to himself we should change the inverter, but as we don't have a TV or anything else expensive, he's reluctant to change and suggests we should make our own entertainment in the evenings, whatever that means! ?
  13. I usually manage to find it at a reasonable price too, which means not buying from Nespresso! I'm going to try my old machine next time and hope that works. I don't think we'll be changing the inverter anytime soon, but might be looking for an alternative coffee experience ? Certainly worth trying, thank you ? I've looked at the aeropress before, but always thought too much hassle. Will give it serious consideration is the old machine doesn't work. In the meantime, I'll stick to cider and gin ? (not in the same glass, of course)
  14. We love the idea you consider us the younger generation! I'll not bother you with the factual stuff about our ages, but just let you know we're flattered ??
  15. Really useful, thank you, far easier for me to show a picture to the OH than me to try to explain it ?
  16. I don't drink tea, although there is a kettle on the gas cooker. The hairdryer and microwave came with the boat. They are both on the pile by the door to be taken off, along with the toast rack, bread bin, cream jug, sugar bowl and various other 'essentials' that come on a hire boat. The vendor is kindly picking us up this afternoon, so we'll return those unwanted items to him. I only drink espresso and don't drink instant, although have used the cafetiere to get my coffee fix this weekend. My post was partly to better understand our boat, and I'm genuinely grateful to those who have helped me with that. I was not intended as an invitation to attack, although I was kinda expecting that, having followed this forum for a few years now. ?
  17. Thanks folks, I'll try the old one here and the new one for the house. My concern was that the inverter is faulty. We've not got a shoreline at the moment and as leisure cruisers without a home base, unlikely to be hooked up all that often.
  18. Deleted duplicate post. It states a quasi sine wave inverter. That means nothing to me!
  19. Power Q Inverter, 1800w, 12v, 24v Coffee machine is 220-240v, 50-60 Hz, <1260w
  20. Power Q Inverter, 1800w, 12v, 24v Coffee machine is 220-240v, 50-60 Hz, <1260w
  21. Whenever we've hired before, I've taken my little Nespresso coffee machine and it's worked without hesitation. We've now bought our own (ex hire) boat and picked her up this weekend. Tired of dragging the machine from home, I purchased one for the boat. It didn't work. Called Nespresso and they concluded it has an electrical fault and we should send it back. I sent himself out on a mission of mercy to buy me a replacement machine (twice the price of the one I bought!), got it back to the boat and it didn't work. The lights come on, you can feel it heating up, but it won't pump the water through. Nespresso help line declared a problem with the pump and told me to take it back. Took it into the marina office and it works perfectly! This indicates an issue with the power on the boat; maybe the inverter? (I am guessing now) The hairdryer (230-240v), microwave and toaster all appear to work just fine off the same socket. I've tried the coffee maker in various other sockets and am now at a loss. Can anyone suggest a solution please? The only thing I can think of at the moment is to try my old machine from home and see if that works, being an older model with a track history of working on boats, but we won't be back for about a month. If there's an issue with the inverter, we'd like to flag it with the vendor before the weekend is over. Thanks in advance
  22. All tips duly noted, thank you. We just need to synchronise our diaries - himself is currently in Tasmania, I'm in Kent and boat is in Nuneaton, yet to be collected. When he gets back, he returns to work in Shetland! We're going to be weekend boaters, but have done the BCN a fair few times as hirers. This sort of quizzy type planning event is right up our street - the planning it takes to actually see each other sometimes can be a bit of a challenge in itself
  23. Excellent, thank you. I'm quite excited already and getting the maps out
