  1. Phew!!! you had us going there.I misread in your post that BW were at napton locks waiting to shut them off.As we are nearly there. Then relieved to see that was back in 1999 Dave
  2. I used to work part time in a car upholsterers. They used to get glue overspray off with good old 3 in 1 oil.Believe me it works on quite young contact glue, not sure about your old stuff.Since then i've used good old WD40.leave it to soak, and might require more than one application.A lot less fumes than petrol or white spirit. But still make sure you 'air' the boat before you turn on the cooker. Dave
  3. I too had a fishing rod nicked whilst we were moored in little Venice.I was well peed off!! Also had a Hazel nut wood walking stick that i had cut out of a hedge over a year back.It was nothing special, but i had made it myself. In a strange way i was flattered they thought it good enough to nick thieving barstewards. Back to your nicked coal,i never understand why people just leave it on the roof uncovered.asking for trouble eh! A boat we passed yesterday was still in the same place three weeks ago,and still with 8 bags of coal on the roof uncovered.Obviously no one on it far ages. The cockpit was full of leaves and branches.Must have money to burn eh?
  4. Afternoon all.Just finished the Ashby canal. And we have been reading about 'Measham Barge Ware'Pottery.Anyone know if its still made? as the wife collects teapots back home.Your help would be very much appreciated. Dave
  5. Hope you don't plan to cruise any more until the ice has finished.or it will all be stripped off again.Lovely looking boat if i may say so. Dave
  6. Blimey that sounds a lot of money for such a short list.Mine failed on about 25 items.I won't list them all but here are a few. 1.Replace all fuel pipes to engine, and secure. This i had done by a boat yard. 2.Too many unrequired wires from batteries to master on/off switch. 3.Fit ply cover over top of leisure batteries. 4.wrong RCD on fuse panel.it was 25amp.Must be no more than 16amp 5.Radio speaker wires cable tied to gas pipe. 6.no easy exccess to bubble stove diesel tap. 7.etc etc Apart from the engine hoses i fixed everything myself.Glad i did now. Dave
  7. Thanks for the phone number via text.Have now called Ian. Gosty hill is it?I thought it was the Midland accent.I stand corrected. Ta again....Dave
  8. Morning all.Frozen in on the Ashby once again. We met Ian on Gosty Hill when we were up here a couple of winters ago.I remember him saying that "One only has to leave the fridge door open and the bloody Ashby freezes over" How right he was. So firstly where are you Ian ? And can anyone tell me where he is and which way he is pointing. If you have his Mobile number, can you give it to me please.Either on here or text me please on 07902925144. Dave
  9. Good evening folks.Today we arived at the top end of the Ashby Canal. And were very surprised what they have done there . Where the slip way was at the end is now a swing bridge and the Canal carries on for at least another 100 yards. There are now very good 48 hour moorings just past the swing bridge. You can moore both sides, but only has bollards one side. The swing bridge is locked and can only be opened by Terry in the narrow boat moored there(The one with 4 Alsations aboard). If you are requiring water etc,top up at Market Bosworth. As the sanitary station suffered a bit during the big freeze. You can use it but you have to turn the stop cock on inside the little shed. Then water comes out of everywhere.Do take an umbrella with you as you will need it....believe me. Well done to all involved with the restoration.
  10. We are on the Ashby, and have just past Market bosworth. There is a Cruiser moored near the road bridge thats totally covered in green slimey mold. Its Licence ran out on 11/09. It has no warning tags on it either. And we worry about over staying on a 48hr max mooring. The only time we did that was during the ice at christmas, then it was 6 weeks.
  11. Ah.......I'm glad i was not shot down in flames with my theory.Surely this is a real waste of precious fuel too.
  12. Ever so slightly off topic.but could have similar consequences.Like so many people we were stuck in the same place for a total of 6 weeks. And could not help noticing a few of the boats moored with us running their engines in gear for hours on end. I do know that people with vintage engines feel that it's good for their engines to run under a certain amount of strain. Fair enough!!Still not good for the canal bottom though. And most of the vintage engine boats have quite large props too. But why do so many do it with modern engines.Surely this does the canal bed no good at all.Seeing the plume of silt(puddle)coming out with the prop wash is surely washing it away.feel free to correct me if i'm wrong on either issue. Therefore contributing to a breach in the future. Ok i'll get my coat now.....Dave
  13. Cheers Mike. Will try that tomorrow.Wife says she called then Dave
  14. Don't know if any of you have tried phoning BW Customer help line? But we have been phoning almost every hour over the last 2 days.A recorded message keeps on coming up saying the lines are very busy,as we are recieving lots of calls right now. Please try later This we keep doing, and no one answers.
  15. I know its like shutting the stable door after the hose has bolted. But get a spare set and hide them somewhere on the outside only you are liable to look. Mind you we always take them home when we leave the boat for more than a day. Good luck and hope you don't do to much damage getting in Dave
  16. Just had a close look at Dover moored in Braunston marina.I thought the old girls paintwork looked a bit faded and scratched.Surely if you are selling a boat worth that much the least you would do is touch the paint up topsides
  17. We set off today from Welton hythe. We were breaking ice all the way to Norton Junction. We turned right towards Braunston. It was very slow going all the way to Braunston tunnel. With the ice still about 30mm thick,The noise was quite frightening!! we are now moored at the top of Braunston Locks. We went for a recce down the locks. There is No ice at all right down to the bottom. If anyone can tell us of the ice situation as far as Hillmorton locks,i would very much appreciate it. Dave.
  18. We are returning to our boat moored in Welton Hythe marina tomorrow. Can anyone tell me if they have or have seen any boats heading towards Braunston going past Welton,as we too need to get past Braunston before they close.Any info would be very much appreciated.Ta in advance.......Dave and Di on NB Urquhart Castle.Wave if you see us go by
  19. We have been living aboard for nearly 3 years, and cruise all the time what ever the weather (but not lately ) In that time we have traveled over 3000 miles,Now we have just about done all of the system. No regrets whatsoever. We would like to carry on for ten years. But we plan to sell in June and spend 6 months traveling in the States. Our favourite season to travel is 'out of season' if you get my drift.
  20. My short(ish) list for reasons mine failed are.... 1. No lid on leisure batteries to stop terminals being shorted out by things like spikes and lock keys.(Make lid) 2. Unsurported diesel pipe going to fuel pump.(Re-route hose and secure) 3. Loose fuel hoses.(Fit New hose and secure) 4. Trip switch on main fuse panel was 20 amp.(Changed to 16 amp). 5. No access panel in front step to enable isolation of diesel to bubble stove.(Cut small hatch). 6. Radio speaker Wires cable tied to copper gas pipe. (Remove and secure at least 100mm away from pipe). 7. Small gas leak to cooker. (Take out cooker and refit joints & test...OK !!). 8. No battery master switch sign in cockpit. ( Fit new Brass plate ). 9. No gas isolation sign to lid of FWD gas locker. ( fit new brass plate ). Dave.
  21. Blinking health and safety!!! Yes it Won't be long before they put up protection railings around locks will it ?
  22. Thanks for that link.So many other good short films on there too.Should keep me from getting bored over chrismas. Cheers Dave
  23. Looks so much like the smaller ec* fan.I know someone who bought one of these. If it gets much hotter than a 60w light bulb the bi metal spring on the base designed to prevent the fan getting to hot lifts the fan up and dances around the top of the fire, then falls off bending the blades, and was never the same again. Dave
