  1. hi Mac, it was me that shouted out your name as you passed the appollo boat. I was the one standing next to the skipper. I had been stopping overnight at leeds on my own boat, moored up at Granary Wharf. Matt, you are right the trip boat was the one one that used to be at Shipley Wharf were you moor now. what about this for a coincidence !! my boat was also moored at shipley wharf for a while just before you started to moor there. It is a Dawncraft 25 cruiser, name then was 'The Rita Deere', now changed to Laikin' Aht might see you around soon
  2. it's a paint that is used widely in the commercial vehicle industry. xylene is no worse than using standard paint thinners, ensure plenty of ventilation when painting in confined space it will be ideal used in the engine bilges Sharky
  3. if it shows up red just grind the weld out and reweld. should be able to get the penetrant and developer from the same place you would buy your welding consumables (is there a BOC depot near you?) if your buying a mig welder you will need one that can take 1mm wire, not a little car jobbie that can only take 0.6mm wire. 4. if your concerned about the welds, buy some cans of crack detector and check them yourself. if you have access to the inside of the shell you spray dye penetrant on one side (usually red) and then spray the developer (white) on the other side of the weld. any flaws will show a red patch in the developer. if you only have access to the exterior of the shell you spray dye penetrant on the weld and leave for a few minutes to soak into any cracks and then remove the dye with penetrant remover. then you spray on the developer and wait for the dye to bleed back out of any cracks or flaws. you need to make sure you clean of all of the penetrant before painting because it will just keep bleeding through each paint coat. 5. I named my GRP Dawncraft cruiser 'Laikin Aht' cos thats what we do on a boat former name was The Rita Deere Sharky
  6. we moor at Snaygill boats. it is a friendly family run business, secure moorings and secure car parking while you are away boating. Sharky
  7. we moor up in Skipton very regularly and have only had one incident last september when youths were running about shouting and swearing fron 12 midnight to about 3.30 am. on this occassion an elederly couple on a snaygill hireboat were cast adrift and I had to give the man help to get moored up again. this event will not stop me from mooring up in Skipton but I will not moor between the bridges opposite the water point because you have a car park on one side and the bus station on the other where people congregate to catch taxis after nightclubs and pubs close. Ange of N B Iona, I spoke to you when you moored up behind me last year when moored in Skipton, I was on the blue and white grp cruiser 'Laikin Aht' Sharky
