  1. I will also in a few months will need to contemplate which choice of loo to opt for, iam used to cassette type toilets via caravan hols etc, but dont know about vauflush toilets other than a classified ad in towpath trader with a picture showing a ceramic toilet with x2 portable emptying tanks? which looked slightly bigger than the cassette type im used to? is this the type u have? i would prefer a pumpout in essence? but feel until advice and research is complete im left undecided.
  2. www.angelwoodboat.blogspot.com We have added a few more pictures, 0n the blog ??? shows a more accurate state of the challenge lol . My link sorry forgot to put the hyperlink in. There are now more pictures for you to look at i will try and upload some more every weekened to show the progress.
  3. www.angelwoodboat.blogspot.com - This where i'm uploading my pictures to if you want to have a look. A long 5 hours to get water tank out ??? Angelwood is looking far worse now !!! but getting there. My son has added more photos to show the carnage ? which i call progress, hope fully within next two weeks the interior will start to show signs of improvement regards Martin
  4. I would just like to say congratulations, Its a big step the first step, well done that man.
  5. Thankyou very much for displaying some photos, my only day of tomorrow so hope to get a good ten hours in, hopefully the water tank will be out tomoz to enable the removal of the mud/silt from under, bought aquametal ie (vactan) as there is allegedly i higher weight content in its chemistry and it was a local company that made it, then red oxide then after lashings of bitumen ? decided to complete the inside to seal and keep clean before effecting any engine works. A quick question if i may, BSS, am i correct in thinking, if nothing is connected , ie engine fuel , water tank etc and i block them all off, should i at this point apply for certificate? Giving me time afterwards to reinstall everything in the correct maner? thanks again Martin
  6. il see if i can get my son yo upload photos for me, or search blogger for angelwoodboat Blogg sorry as im rather a ludite when it comes to computer techie stuff
  7. Blue, Green Pink, they are all antifreeze but do differ, and some should not be mixed, but they are mostly automotive applications, the basic diffrences are to which specific engine (car deriven) application, ie an older engine in a car would have bluecol or like, moving on to modern all alloy engines the pink (coolant ) type!! its all to do with the alloys and seals between the alloys. So my GUESS is for a heating system your local parts factors common antifreeze will be more than sufficient, if your drainig system and starting fresh go for pink, its not as cheep but as i understand it much kinder to the enviroment, stable for longer and overall suited to all seals n metal/alloys. kind regards Martin
  8. Wish i had known, great pictures. I went to the black country museum for the first time earlier this year, what a fascinating enjoyable day out, a day out for everyone, ooh and the fish n chips wow. If you havent been pls try, it has so much to see and do. From grand parents to grandchildren , its most proper !!!!!!
  9. Hi folkes, Im mostly cleaning, having purchased Angelwood, which sank on the severn in Glos some twelve months ago, now the next 6 weeks il b mostly digging mud n making dry n clean, and although in amongst my jumbled head ihave a rough plan, from the outset i would really appreciate info pictures and ideas on how to make< the best good easiest access through the stern, when there is a half ton lump of metal right where i want to step down? Silly i know as were all diffrent shapes n sizes, but folkes some of you have found a good compromise to make the stern space usefull/accesible, and some welcome visitors only via the bow doors. I post this now, because i feel the more information and ideas collected will help many others with planning. cheers regards martin

  11. Hi Starcoaster, Wow What a lot of reading this thread has, id just like to say dont give up your dream, I too have been through the mill a dreaming (gongoozler ) lol, 8 years nof learning dreaming and wishing, but its not been wasted as last week i finally purchased a boat, like you financially the goal seemed not possible but the desire still grew. My Advice is to search towpath trader carefully, contact bw , every region and enquire about section 8 craft, troll apollo duck, and boats n outboards, learn all you can. And believe in yourself from all that you head from advice given, and take that step. Viewing as many boats as possible is a great learning curve, but view them thouroughly, lift things up poke things about, stay focused on the lower priced boats, and eventually, you will find afeel to whats achieavable. I wish you very good luck. Just keep the faith happy huntings kind regards Martin
  12. Like your approach nothing to loose besides the filters i remain hopeful, but either way i think i shall stick with perkins as an engine, still ripping back cabin out to gain proper access to it and still moving mud, o the mud!!!!! even though it was cleared out, ive filled ten rubble bags full, and guess i have another ten to go before its all gone. tomorrow will remove starter and alternator to refurb and drain sump etc. Thanks for your advice regards Martin.
  13. Vactan ordered, knotted wire angle grinder discs present, grey industrial enamel ordered, goggles gloves, thats it time to crack on ,
  14. Im afraid its a private boat and ought not Provide name etc, however try searching for history from the Bigfish archives, as they made the craft
  15. Recently viewed 2 boats with wet rooms, one walk through one corridor which morphed full width of boat use of very clever doors, both offered space, and a very practical solution my thoughts are the whole room was watertight and all damp condensates to floor level and runs away to pump, damn good, take a look at Alvechurch boat sales Rohan, (just sold ) an amazingly clever boat throughout, self build by a true engineer. We will also build a wet room, it just ticks our box. The challenge is on regards Martin
  16. What a day, But wonderfull, moved angelwood to saul, against the wind we made slow progress but progress, two attempts to turn about on the canal to come along aside boat yard to secure, rested as the volunteer tow was quite poorly and spent most of the previous nite in hospital. The journey back was leisurely and gave me time to reflect, oh bugger what have i/we done . Once back at gloucester docks secured Oransay to its moorings (tow boat) and then bumped into angelwoods previous owner (Jude) and poppy the Jack russell who both survived the sinking, what an unexpected opening line to a meeting from Jude (thank you so much for buying and rescuing my lovely angelwood) what an opener? good friends will be made and i hope we will quickly fit in to our new life. Past two days we have received so much moral support, and good wishes, A very welcoming and promising start What a day, But wonderfull, moved angelwood to saul, against the wind we made slow progress but progress, two attempts to turn about on the canal to come along aside boat yard to secure, rested as the volunteer tow was quite poorly and spent most of the previous nite in hospital. 17. Owatrol, i like the sound off to clarify oil based paint ? is there a red oxide/type paint or primer suitable to paint over owatrol? would owatrol allow blacking to be painted over it ??? Move the boat tommorrow so hopefully within 3 weeks i will of finished prep to floor ready for treatment/painting regards Martin
  18. Tony thank you, just flicked through the bss , like reading an mot testers update book lol, I think if i concentrate on one area at atime all will fall into place, bss comes across as common sense, good practise, etc i can see pitfalls in there? but sure with guidance on the forums i will get there. Intresting thing today, my surveyor expressed his dislike to vactan , rustkill type applications, his recommendations after many years of examining canal boats? to quote (take it back to bear metal, black bitumen it, n before the black sets , fit roofing felt to it, . yup he said simple, bitumenh starts to dry off then place shed felt on top the two become one , presto metal sealed twice, as felt adheres, ballast sits on felt protecting all? makes sense i guess, he pointed out on my, yes i can call it my boat now areas of red oxide, areas of blacking, areas of stuffs behind boiler area, and many others, strangly, areas red oxide were showing signs of surface rust (17) yrs later, however the blacked areas, were just black, no rust at all i mean nothing ? lots to learn, lots to do,
  19. R w davis Saul. They have been helpfull and supportive so far, early days, just came back from the initial hand over and bss meeting, need to obtain a copy of the essential bss guide, any ideas where ? in the true light of day i have a mammoth task ahead lol, cheers martin

  21. haha Pink eyes, hadnt decided on a new name as yet, but the boat had suffered some bad luck, one things for sure when its completed i will probably lost weight n have very red eyes ?? perhaps the name Ol red eyes?? her who must be obeyed likes (nothings normal) says it somes me up ?? Regards Martin
  22. The ballast is of paviour type bricks, as to the engine i intended to take exactly the same route as you suggest, although last nite noted a complete rebuild kit on ebay for 229.00 liners rings pistons shells n gaskets, bargain, D3 152 perkins. ? the boat is in Gloucestershire, and will be for some time i suspect thankyou, for all your advice regards Martin
  23. just a quick enquiry if i may, Can anyone tell me the procedure to change the name on a boat please, i am just about to license it? kind regards martin
  24. No insulation at all now,all been gutted, i see some threads where they have used (batton typre ) rockwall, im not conviced on spray foam due to varying quality and thickness of application, i was told to look for black polystyrene type board which apparently has a very high insulation quality, but mentioned it down the builders to receive vacant looks L so choices cellotex/kingspan, rockwool type , or ol fashioned polystyrene. But i have a few months ahead of me before i make my choice and committ to this. thankyou Ah yes first job remove ballast clean n paint, replace, second remove engine, 3rd restyle weed hatch cover and fit new metal bulkhead!!!
