  1. sad news but understandable I think you are (were) the only surviving mod from when i joined thanks for all the work & time you put in
  2. Have you checked you have enough water in the tank? Could it be the hot works because it comes from the calorifier and the vanity unit cold works because the boat trims when you stand on that side so the last of the water can get out of the tank?
  3. When i said I would 'invite' JohnV I meant I would let him know the time & place I was under the impression that banters were open to anyone who wanted to attend and as such no invite is necessary so if people who now post on TB rather then here want to come along then that's fine with me. Barry, i find your statement odd. If someone turns up who you dont like (based on their postings) then just dont talk to them if you feel that strongly. On the other hand you may enjoy their company or realise that you've been reading their posts based on a misconception of where they're coming from Not attending because you think you wont like someone you've never met before seems to be cutting your nose off to spite your face

  7. Well there's John V, who I'm rather taken with and intend to invite if/when a date is ever decided
  8. Your interpretations look spot on to me

  10. ooh that's interesting, i've heard of 2 boaters getting a rebate (for red inadvertently purchased at 60/40) They had to fill in a paper form Was this recently or when the scheme was newish? I'd expect that answer for someone trying to claim for white they put in a boat though
  11. might be more efficient to have just one thread which is updated when a thread gets deleted with the title and reason It could serve as a guide for newbies (and the rest of us) who need a bit of clarification on say what is covered by "no politics" or "legal discussions of ongoing cases" etc

  13. oh good and oh darn - i thought we may be about to have a robust but reasonable discussion - just to show we could

  19. ha ha - yes speedboat was the wrong term but i think people know what i mean
  20. I understand your reasoning and it would be a defense (in my opinion) in the very unlikely scenario that HMRC ever questioned the 0% propulsion sale but, as i said earlier, the 'correct' thing to do would be claim the domestic percentage for the white from HMRC and make a correct declaration for the intended future use of the red It's all a bit academic though as not only is it an estimate of intended future use which may well not be accurate but any calculation is going to be an estimate anyway and I dont believe HMRC are bothered about chasing us narrowboaters cos it's just not worth it
  21. I've no idea how HMRC came up with 60/40 but remember it's not just liveaboard narrowboaters who the scheme applies to. It also applies to leisure boaters, people with speedboats etc etc who *should* be declaring a higher propulsion percentage if that is applicable
  22. no, you're not You make the declaration on the intended future use of the diesel you are buying

  24. well yes, it would have to be intended future use as you've only just purchased it Well I've never assumed that. I think the 'correct' thing to do if you have previously overpaid (instead of offsetting) would be to contact HMRC and ask them how to claim a refund directly from them I dont think I've ever got diesel (from a supplier in the scheme) without making a declaration. This week I was asked to make another declaration despite buying from the same place and same split as I did in April - I guess it depends on their systems Suppliers need to make quarterly (i think it's quarterly) returns to HMRC and do get audited. Part of that audit would be to look at their systems as well as the returns. I dont think HMRC will ever bother themselves with individual boaters - we're just not that important. Give em a bit, not too much and dont worry about it is my motto
  25. I think the declaration lasts a year so if you're buying at the same split as before there is no need to sign another one
