  4. Might be worth looking very closely to where the reg sticker was located. If it has been pulled off cleanly and not scraped, the adhesive often will take up the shape of whatever was impressed into the surface - one may then get a clue to it's reg and a phone call/letter etc to BW may reveal it as a 'section 8' boat which you may be able to purchase. Or look inside for an old licence.......

  7. Presumably Byeckerslike likes them, as they've only been used over the bed/bedtime/no running engine? When/if I use LED lights, I intend to use a small voltage regulator for each one. Useful to know for those who are not aware of their shortcomings. I just posted the info for those who may be interested.

  12. Agree with soldthehouse on this one. It's greatly increased my understanding of lubricants. With the exception of the difference between mineral and synthetic, single and multigrade, 10W-40 and 20W-50, I thought oil was oil was oil. Now I know better - Steamraiser2 and chas cass, thank you both!

  14. Welcome. Oops indeed. I did something similar in Sept 1992 - I bought a narrowboat, but it was a bit rough. I started work on it and the OH didn't find out (I couldn't contain myself any longer!) until Easter 1993 . When she first came to see it, the lockkeeper presented her with her (Dunton) windlass (that I'd bought, but left it on site) Her face was a picture! It will be an investment when it's finished (I've had start a second refit due to having to take up the floor for the new bottom plate to be attached down the centre of the boat) I had a few sideways glances over the first few weeks, but I'm still here (and she loves boating)
  15. I've only ever used the 'thinner' paints such as Key's Imperial No. 1 (now defunct) or RapidPaints Bitumen, and have both brushed and rollered them, the roller to cover the large areas and the brush for 'corners' much as one would for emulsion. Comastic and Intertuf, I've only ever seen brushed, presumably because they are much thicker paints. Like most things, it's down to personal choice. Having carpal tunnel syndrome, I could not even consider using those thick paints or brushing the whole boat.
  16. This offer is shown in a leaflet obtained from the store today, but I can't see it on their website. I've listed this to show the 12volt MR16 GU5.3 lamps if anyone's interested. Seems not a bad price (unless you buy off eBay!)

  19. Know what you mean....and there's cruising, blacking etc plus all those jobs/chores at home................
  20. I use a furry one, in fact a 7 inch one which is not too unwieldy to handle and fits nicely between the rubbing strakes, and follow with a 3in brush in the other hand to remove any tiny bubbles. I only use one per blacking and trap the whole thing in water (in the roller tray) between coats (shake well to remove water from inside roller before starting next coat!). It's only a cheap kit that I buy (around £1.79 - £1.99 from Wilko) then bin brush, roller and tray when finished.

  22. Does it move/rock like a tent when it's windy, how stable is it? Dunno tho' - the more I look at the photos, the more I realise that it's probably solid? It is braced in every direction. Nice one!
  23. Sorry, yes, I'd forgotten that they have been discussed before HERE I blame tonight's venture into the whisky bottle..................
  24. Not seen that idea before, but seriously, how do you fare when it's bl**dy windy?....
