I am not usually one for a rant but what is going on with CRT.
The locks are falling into disrepair
The plastic paddles are now writing their own notes to boaters
Signs threaten fines for over staying on lengths that you cannot moor without your own strimmer
Watford locks are out of use at the moment with over ten boats waiting for CRT to power wash the lock gates as part of the winter maintenance albeit September
I think we may sell the boat and get a campervan for next summer
Rant over
I have just been talking to a boater who tells me that carrying a catapult and threatening to fire back has stopped him being stoned on a number of occasions.
Has anyone got an opinion on this defence strategy?
What could be the consequences of carrying or using this weapon?
Thanks for your replies John and Victor
Just to let everyone interested know you can buy a card at the canal shop (shed) between locks 12 and 13. Open at busy times. We had to wait until 10.15am Sunday (not too bad really)
We used the pumpout at the junction but dont think it was very good. I always prefer a boat yard because you can negotiate a rerun if not convinced it pumped out properly.
Do any early bird forums members know if Swallow Cruisers Lapworth or SG Boats Knowle have pump out facility available on a Sunday. Or where could I buy a card for the pumpout at the Junction
Last year it was included in the Gold Licence for the last time. Glad we went before the charge kicks in. £130 I think for our boat. I like Cambridge but not at that price. I think people should boycott the Cam which then may create a rethink.
We were there 2/3 years ago and I think it was £5. The man in the basin was very friendly and helpful but the lady manager was the opposite. I think £10 is the sign of the times and I would try not to pay that much. If boaters do pay without question then we will be the victims of ever increasing price hikes, The arm is ok if you can get in and use the basin when you need good usage of electicity etc.
It is a shame that you decided to give the L and L a miss. We have done it many times over 20 years in our boat which is 62ft. Care is required and if sharing enter the lock first and move over.
I don't use this forum as much as a lot of other people but more than a lot of other people. I just wondered if the site traffic had increased or decreased since the recent format changes. I feel that I am still getting used to the new format.
We are going to France in May and fancy a week on the waterways. We would like advice on the following
Is there a good route for a week?
Is there a good return route or would we be better on a one way cruise?
Which base and area would you recommend? Is parking safe?
How can I get the best price I am happy to arrive on spec and haggle if you have had any success with this strategy?
Your advice and tips would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Dekker

I want to start to keep a cruising record of our trips. Any advice regarding downloads or hard copy books please.
What and where do you keep your records? (If at all)
I visited my boat yesterday and found a patrol notice attached to it. As stated in my post the licence was paid in November. Does the patrol notice have any detrimental effect and as already stated should I contact C&rt to clear the record.
I paid my renewal licence last November(It was due January 1st 2013.)
I phoned C&RT late December as my discs had not arrived but my money had been taken from my bank.
I did not want my boat being observed by anyone without a licence.
The lady said it is ok as we have received your payment and there is a backlog processing licences at this time of year.
I got a phone call from enforcement saying my boat had been observed in my marina on 22nd January and was unlicenced.
I told her it was licenced but was unable to display my discs as they had not arrived.
She went away and checked that payment had been made and said the discs would come soon.
Why could she not have checked this first and then she would not have had to leave a message on my phone. (A call from C&RT in January is very alarming for a law abiding boater)
Never had this problem with BW.
My discs arrived a few days later.
5 days after my discs arrived I got a text saying thet were on their way.
No apology or concern at any stage.
Terrible customer service is there any point in making a complaint?
