  1. Also if anyone in the local area would like to work as secondary crew and train for their boatmasters ticket let me know.
  2. Hello Everyone. I am starting a small passenger boat service on the Nene near Peterborough and am looking for boatmasters. I am renovating an old passenger boat which will be MCA approved and need part time Captains with tier 2 ratings. If you or anyone you know is interested and qualified please send me a personal message with a contact phone number. Cheers, Alex.

  4. I wasted time and effort looking into the Nassington mooring as well but I never found out about the enforcement order, what was it? I am now very relieved I didnt buy it. I put the photos up to warn people about it flooding as the owner claimed only 40% of the land floods!
  5. Here are some photos of the mooring for sale in Nassington when the Nene floods. I guess the boat floated onto the bank during a previous flood. The river is on the other side of the trees
  6. I use a canadian canoe to explore parts of rivers most boats can't reach! It's the best stress relief I've found.
  7. On this part of the Nene you should check the flood levels (right now it is in full flood) It is usually possible to make a platfom on the bank just above normal flood level for access, with poles to moor against driven into the riverbed. The platform and poles should extend no further than 1meter into the river and be strong enough to survive the flow of flood water with a boat moored to it. You should check the planning permission before doing anything. If the moorings you are talking about are the one Im thinking of you need to be careful, lots of issues and right now they are underwater!
  8. Hi Rob, I know the moorings you are talking about, they are purpose built and very nice. I think the main issue you have there is the depth of the channel. If you look at the blog attached, scroll down to "Bit of 'off river' boating in Nassington" you will see you may need to dredge. If so there are two work boats near you that might be able to do the work, could be expensive though. http://www.choiceforum.co.uk/blog/archives...01_archive.html
  9. Greetings! I'm new here too! I hope you get a lot of joy out of your new boat. Good time to tidy it up, ready for the start of the cruising season. My guess is your engine will be a 4108, the best thing to do is post a couple of photo's and someone will know what it is. You might get some other useful comments/observations as there are some very helpful people here with a huge amount of experience/knowledge.
  10. The speed limit on the Nene is 7mph. (I'm not saying you should go that fast!). The E.A. told me Wansford lock takes 10mins one way (It has an electric guilotine gate) But if is important I can go and time some of the local locks when they are being used and when it warms up a bit! If you look at the detailed Nene maps on the link below you will see the river with estimated cruising times. These might help to compare against your calculations. Im not sure if the maps for other rivers are as detailed. http://www.fenswaterways.com/FurtherInform...57/Default.aspx I hope this info helps. Maybe people using your canalometers could report cruising and lock times back to you to fine tune your system?

  15. I slipped on my deck last week and I came close to falling in. The Nene was fast flowing and cold. It was a real eye opener to me as I looked at the eddies and current, I'm a strong swimmer but fully dressed in winter gear I think I would have been in trouble. I'm a lot more careful now and Ive cleaned the deck to remove the thin film of slime I slipped on. I slipped on my deck last week and I came close to falling in. The Nene was fast flowing and cold.
