  1. I am seeking out fresh marina moorings and have the following on my shortlist: Aston at Stone Overwater at Audlem Aqueduct at Church Minshull Great Haywood Would appreciate comments from anyone with experience of any of the above.
  2. Give the zips a good scrub with soapy water to get rid of dirt. When dry spray with silicone (furniture polish will do it) as previously suggested. Avoid oil, WD40 or grease as this will attract dust and eventually impair the zip slide.
  3. I have set my preferences to no email notification but am still getting them. I set a couple of times some weeks ago but no effect on the notifications. What have I done wrong?
  4. Spot on Chewbacca, waterscape info is the one and yes I am aware of the other site but thanks for telling me. Much appreciate you taking the trouble to dig out the info
  5. I am looking for the print off CRT Canal cruising guides but can't find them on the website. I found the maps but found the guides useful in the past. Do they still exist?
  6. Ooooooh! .......self righteous.........grow up...... It's only pub banter that's why it is in the virtual pub. Sorry for causing irritation nay distress!!
  7. If it is halfway down the mast it could be obstructed from view by buildings. Anyway half mast flying is a long standing tradition steeped in history and stems from the days when flags were used for communication. Why not do it right? Grumpy git - good to be recognised
  8. Seems flying flags at half mast is becoming very sloppy and in my view disrespectful to those whom we are remembering. For some reason and with very few exceptions flags are flown literally halfway down the mast. The correct position is one flag span depth down from full mast. Call me a grumpy git but if a flag is to be flown do it properly especially at these difficult times
  9. Depends which canal and as previously said what was in the Enabling Act. For example, CRT own a strip on the offside of the Leeds and Liverpool canal.
  10. Be careful, it is a legal requirement to keep your driving license up to date. You should tell DVLA of a change of address. BTW if something criminal happens and is connected to your old address it could be difficult for you having a license with that address. A long shot I know but it could happen.
  11. That's great. Thanks for the info and I note you comment about silicone - but for this my first call would have been silicone.
  12. I can see the merit in removing the ports to clean/retreat. How does one ensure a good seal on refitting? I understand ports should be fitted using a gasket seal rather than a mastic type. Having said that I have not seen any 'gaskets' advertised. Any views on this?
  13. I have put diluted antifreeze down the waste traps (sink shower etc) and run shower emptying pump. Have just thought what should be done about the WC macerator as this will have liquid in it as will the pipe from WC to holding tank? Any views?
  14. By gun you mean the brass cylinder? If so mine screws off completely from the base as does the other end with the plunger. I've tried Tony's method but doesn't work for me.
  15. Is there a knack in refilling the greaser? I 've tried spooning it in and sticking the greaser barrel into the grease tub and 'sucking' up the grease by winding back the piston. Whatever I try I still get air trapped in the greaser. Any suggestions?
  16. Sorry for hijacking your post but related. Anyone looking for a first class vintage engine engineer in the Northwest, I can recommend PB Mechanical on the Leeds Liverpool at Chorley. They well acquainted with most vintage types including Russell Newbury/National. Solved all kinds of problems for me and for a reasonable price. Any bits that could not be found were re manufactured. Has workshop facilities, does call out and is very reliable. See www.pbmechanical.co.uk 01257 474422 ask for Adam seems to work seven days a week!! No he is not related just a technical genius who isn't looking to get rich quick!
  17. I've got some of these along with other trinkets I need to dispose of. I'll post in 'sales and wants' forum
  18. Depending on the gradient of the slipway and design of boat there is a risk of water entering fuel tank via tank vent as the boat lifts at the front end. Same goes for any other holes such as exhaust. Solution is to tape up any holes or slip the boat stern first
  19. You weren't there so you don't know what the patrol person said! As for the law preventing them from disclosure, what the law says and what people (and CRT for that matter) do isn't always the same thing. Comment and challenge by all means but keep your bollocks to yourself! I am sure your vocabulary isn't so limited to rely on such offensive words
  20. Been following this with interest and have discovered that CRT will only chase you if they have your up to date boat and personal details. I have a home mooring but due to a health issue I had to overstay and notified CRT of my situation. Despite been given a 'sympathetic' response I was 'required' to provide a letter (not a sick note) from my 'health professional' and even then I still accumulated overstay notices. YET, five boats, no licence or number displayed, and within yards of me were allowed to stay, according to locals one had been there for at least THREE YEARS. The only difference being CRT had all my details, latest address, up to date email and phone contact. I was told by CRT the other boats had been allowed to overstay as CRT didn't have reliable contact details of the owners so couldn't send overstay notices. My subsequent emails and telephone calls remain unanswered. Seems being up front and honest doesn't count for much with CRT, think I will provide a bogus email and phone number on next licence renewal, or maybe not bother renewing Glad to say I have recovered and continuing my cruising
  21. Yes I've used Craftmaster for years with good results. I have heard of Farecia - I'll look it up. Thanks for info
  22. I picked up from previous posts the difference between waxing (protects) and polishing (slightly abrasive to clean). My question is has anyone any experience of using the waxing type and what product(s) would be recommended?
  23. The Paint Shed at Anderton (Based in Uplands Marina but not connected) did mine. Removed all fittings/windows etc stripped back to bare metal, removed any rust spots, repainted and did excellent sign writing. Al in a heated shed to gave good finish on final paintwork. Their work is in demand so expect to wait for a slot (12 mnths in my case but well worth the wait) unless you drop lucky with a cancellation.
