  1. We stopped for lunch at the nelson in June and were very happy with their service...it was pricey but seved a decent pint and the sofa was very comfy! dog friendly too..
  2. We went in last week and the beer and food was very good, can recommend the sausage and mash....also dog friendly in the public bar
  3. well obviously those who have no idea or interest need not reply....doh there is nothing at all wrong with giving BW a call and I surely will, I'm used to frequenting forums in my own sphere (cycle racing) where people are eager to supply up to date info....
  4. thanks for the link, a bit ironic that he says he's doing all he can whilst sitting an the beam with his hands in his pockets.... good point, hopefully there will be enough water to to get us a couple of days cruising past the 2nd
  5. is it possible to navigate the lock free sections during a stoppage or are you duty bound to moor up and sit it out? sorry for the numpty content just trying to salvage something from my holiday...
  6. or I could draw on the vast knowledge that is this forum......
  7. Sods law were taking a friends narrowboat out next wednesday for a week and a half what if any are my options if it closes on the 2nd? Will it close on the evening of the 1st or 2nd? Will movement be allowed on lock free stretches? I have to return the boat to the marina at the end of the holiday....
  8. all sounds pretty good, thanks for the ideas so far...
  9. My partner and I are serial gongoozlers that hanker after a life on the cut. In our previous lives we've both had several canal holidays and have hired a 60 foot semi trad to see if it's still as good as we remember it (my ex hated every minute!!). Sooo where to head for out of Autherley for a leisurely week and a decent pint and where to avoid??? thanks in advance P_dog
  10. as part of our long term plan my partner and I plan a week away in the next month or so. We'd like to hire a 58 foot semi trad with a decent spec, any suggestions for a leisurely route and hire company or those to avoid at this time of year...and yes I know everyone asks these numpty questions...
  11. trouble is it's the thin end of the wedge...if he allows it there will be a host of 'me too's' and you'll have all sorts of semi permenant things appearing....
  12. thats the one! many thanks I've never seen it in flower before
  13. I popped in for a ploughmans and a pint of adnams....very helpful and enthusiastic bar staff...
  14. we spotted a low growing plant flowering outside braunston marina, it had purply white flower spikes and the begginings of broad leaves...can anyone name it I've looked all over the net for it...
  15. I spent 2k on my pole and it wasn't a particularly expensive one!...I remember one incident when an angler was caught short and had a dump in someones canal side hedge. He was spotted and subsequently named and shamed and barred for a year, the club secretary had to clear it up..Report all incidents clubs really do care about losing their local venues...
