  1. The boats that are coming to the show are due to filter up gradually over a fortnight so there shouldnt be any upward heave in traffic. The only hold up of traffic might be at Watford locks on the 29, but that wont last anymore than a half hour
  2. Title says it all really As is my understanding; they were sold before GUCCo was nationalised, but where did they go? And for that matter, where are they now?
  3. Hardest thing to do on a narrowboat is persuade a nervy shetland pony to go up the ramp and out of the hold. Poor Zigzag, he hates leaving the boats
  4. I've fallen in plenty of times, but never off of a boat... What does that make me?
  5. Born to it me I'm slowly training my nephew and niece to it aswell. They quite like having a boatwoman for an aunt
  6. My bad, only had a quick look. and without my glasses! So thats why the knot of people suddenly and randomly waved at the sky!
  7. I see no-one took any pics of the boat I was with. I'll grant you shes not as photogenic as the other boats, but Zodiac's not that scratty
  8. A brass doorknob on a bit of a poker. It suits Linnet
  9. I wasn't suggesting lobbing it like a shotput just onto the edge where you can pick it up once your at the top of the ladder Its what I got told to do when I was to young for the bra trick. Thank you Billy Atkins

    Cabin vents

On the back cabin of the boats, you have a letter-box vent on the side of the cabin. Now; I want a cast iron one, painted, for Linnet, but I've had people saying that a brass one would be better for the boat because 'it wont corrode', 'it wont stain the cabin side' (I couldn't understand that one myself), 'it wont damage the cabin' etc. I'd be interested to know what people out there think. Brass or iron?
  11. Waste of money. Wear a decent belt and tuck it that, or chuck it onto the bank before you climb up When I'm using lock ladders, I tuck the handle of the windlass under the shoulder strap of my bra. Not that you could do it (I hope...)
  12. Linnet has a full boatmans cabin with the only tweak being a permanently dropped cross bed (The water tanks are built in under there) and I just hop over the bed into the engine room and around the engine. The way the engine is set up, you go onto a removable step; I'm 'a heavy footed cow' and my dad didn't want the gearbox squashing There have been guests staying on Linnet who are 6'4" and they managed in there no problem.

  17. Well, when Badsey went through she dragged a big metal something for a few yards, then picked up a good length of chain round her prop. As is my understanding of the junk there; they had a mishap with the dam first time round (it fell over) and they left most of it on the bottom, so the junk would be the supports from the dam. At an educated guess I'd say the little boat was about 2"3' draft, and 30" long.
  18. Just a caution to anyone who'll be passing the new marina at Yelevertoft. They've made a dam out of plastic sheeting where the entrance will be and there is a ton of junk lying in the channel abreast of it, just waiting to go around your prop. They do have signs up, asking you to 'coast past', but there is that much rubbish that any boat over 2'4'' draft is in danger of getting beached on it Don't think they'll help if you get stuck, I watched the workers laughing at a little boat trapped on the rubbish..

    BW bylaws

Has anyone got a link to current bylaws? The only ones I can find on BW's website are the 1965 ones, and I assume they've been updated since then
