  1. Excellent! another ricky off The List
  2. Actually, so've I As for ramping nails, they certainly get used on all timber boats. But I wouldn't know about composite, not quite my forte... yet
  3. Not certain on composites, but I'd guess the principles of bottoms are all the same. Bottom planks are no narrower than 1ft and no wider than 3ft. They get cut and planed to a taper so they can be driven up tight. I'd imagine they then get fitted as per timber boat construction then bolted to the metal hull and the knees. Water tightness is achieved with caulking, filling the gaps with oakum and knocking it in tight, and the timber used now is Opepe.

  8. Whats the height limit for the harecastle tunnel?
  9. How much do you think theyre going for? and do you think theyd accept "well if i have the boat, i can work it so it can earn its keep and restoration"?
  10. Walton. Now about to be rebuilt at Malkins bank
  11. Yep, I've found that leather show-it-off belts tend to put me in the ASBO brigade. I can't afford to be wolf whistled at by hoodies, I have standards to upkeep
  12. My belt is going to be show-off-you-waist belt, but I believe that it is generally worn like a cumberbund on special occasions; hatches, matches and despatches. that sort of thing
  13. Wait until you see me wearing one! Good bye stereotypes
  14. I can make one myself, but I'm to lazy to do it... Anyone make and sell them?
  15. the more the merrier! just treat other peoples boats with respect (don't use other peoples boats as fenders, strapping posts or a mooring) and we'll welcome you to the fold!

  19. just thinking about though, the daftest Ive ever had was: "is is wooden?" No, what you can see there is a very expensive paint job on a brand new steel boat, and that patch of bare oak you see is just a talking point.
  20. We were bringing Linnet through Braunston tunnel and got beached on the landslip at the portal. Picture the scene: Big wooden boat, obviously old, a little tatty, both the people on board struggling to shift her out of the way. A boat waiting to come into the tunnel, the woman on the bow shouts out to us: "are you stuck? Why are'nt you using your bow thruster?" Honestly, does it look like we can afford bow thruster
  21. We have a couple, they all show that dreadful steel cruiser stern and I tried to get hold of the tingays, but the one we seem to need doesn't have a phone and cruises randomly along the system...
  22. Touch wood she seems sound, of course we can't see whats happening with the stern but she doesnt appear to have taken on any thing
  23. 8 months after coming out and 12 months after first moving into this stupid caravan, Linnets been launched!
  24. We're getting closer then.......
