Surely as a trust/charity that would leave us more wriggle room to have volounteers and work parties for sections? It's got to be better than selling the water to electricity companies...

We put ours around the entrance to the ponies paddock. Zigzag and Sunday tend to sink up to their knees without it and, being shetland ponies, they really don't need to shrink anymore

All things considered; for every pound of tax money the canals use, they put 4.something back. Thats including fishing, cycling, boats, walkers etc

I got bored of wondering ,emailed BW about the boats and this is the reply: "Your Expression of Interests have been put in. The fate of the boats have not yet been decided but as soon as they have you will be contacted. I anticipate this will be by mid December at the latest."

Without clearer images of the OP, it is impossible to say how close the offending straps are. There are many different things to be factored in on craning; does anyone know what frame-work was put inside the boat? What are the 'repairs to the hull'? That could be a reason for unusual strap placement..

Not wishing to be pedantic, ibut you mean the centre of mass Also, we can't see what measures they've put in the boat to give her strength, so we can't say whether she'd be in imminent danger and the length of the straps give an inaccurate sight of how big the pressure point on the hull is. I'd be more worried that there's three boats in the way should anything go wrong and the flying boat briefly takes up sky-diving

£30k for a pair is a fair price, depending on the condition of Sirius. I'll still go after Ian though, I've had my eye on her since she first came into Crick.

Bit belated... Ian is in deceptive condition; while she looks okay, she need a total rebuild. Rough estimate: £150,000. She used to be in Crick, and sank 3 times because the bilge pump failed. I raised the alarm on two of her duckings. Apopros of nothing, I'm saving up and learning how to rebuild/look after wooden boats. Ian will be mine

Oak is prone to moving around and splits easier 'cause its quite a straight grain. Opepe is unproven really. I don't think there are any boats that have worn Opepe on the long haul. Heres hoping there doesn't suddenly appear a big flaw in using it

off the top of my head, 3inch. They are big bits of wood, and Opepe is a b*****d. It doesn't float, it needs a good run up to change shape and it splinters. I took some offcuts of it from Linnet's rebuild to bottom my model and boy, was that a mistake! I ended up using a flowerpot tray and the Opepe as ballast, it was not worth a hand full of splinters.

Probably not. Although having said that Linnet's only 6'10". Webster did a MAGIC job on her!
