  1. You can try Saville Town Wharf, Dewsbury, they'll pull it out and blacken it for you at a fair price.
  2. The visitor mooring at Doncaster are used quite regular by visitors funny thing, what about the permenant moorers there? as the only access is through one gate via a BW key, would the full time moorers be happy with that gate being open all the time for your customers? I doubt they would like people walking around their boats on the security side of things especially with the cost of their moorings. Have you spoke to any of them???? noticed passing there the other day that the moorings/marina is up for sale, so it may not be BW operated but private in the future
  3. Hi 10-14 days as the nights are closing in, the going rate is about £40 a day plus fuel and any overnight moorings that's single handed, well that's what I charge, where about in Wakefield are your moorings? it also depends on the boat too. there's the reliability issue as there's alot of confidence in moving a newish boat then a 70's-80's or shed boat, if the mover is good he would advise on your chances of getting there without the call out of an engineer, if you know what I mean
  4. Have a look at the following link http://www.rya.org.uk/infoadvice/regssafety/Pages/recreationalcraftdirective.aspx Even if you keep the boat for 5 years the elec wiring/gas/ventilation etc must still comply to current marine safety standards as it will just get picked up by a surveyor/boat safety examiner once you try and sell the boat, so your best getting everything right now before it goes into the water and get a Decloration of Conformity.
  5. why not use one of those telescopic mops and a mop bucket you should be able to get most of it out and engine heat will do the rest may take a while if you have a bit in there but cheaper then all the Pampers,
  6. Broken spirit and lost the will to live! the cost of reading Deans posts, can't wait to see what tomorrow brings, so exciting can't wait
  7. A bit pushed to get one of those things over the leicester Narrow I think , you could try "Living the Dream" by Trevor Pavitt a good insight to living afloat on the canals
  8. I suspect that most of these replies to Deans topic have confussed him even more
  9. Just out of interest did you talk with the Lock Keeper prior, as he normally holds you at Torksey for the tide and has the lock open for you on your arrival at Keadby
  10. Which way did you enter the lock? as you are advised by the lock keeper when you book in to go past the lock do a U turn and come back down with the lock on your right, running against the water and turn right into the lock. This is the way most Narrowboats do it and I've never known any problems with debris on the prop. Did you come straight up the left hand side and turn left into the lock, as there are usually ships berthed that side? I've not heard of a Narrowboat coming in this side as the tide is too fast to turn on most occasions.
  11. Why did you put this on?? straight away you think it is to do with Viking Marine as you were the first to add a reply, You should of made it clear cut that this link/blog has nothing to do with Viking at the begining, better still you should not of jumped in with it at all, this could be damaging to a genuine company. Your first post would of been better off on this topic: http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=39862
  12. It's on sale on the Viking site, looks like a cancelled order, far better to sell quickly and get the money in the bank then have lying around getting rusty, I doubt you'll find a cheaper new boat with a decent engine anywhere on the net. Just read the Apollo Ad, Price for orders taken before end of Summer. Still looks good if you can get an exact boat like the pics. At that Price/Spec I should imagine they'll have a few takers

Better, is that the one when the rabbit comes out of his hole goes around the back of the tree and back down again???

  16. Dean, why don't you just phone the Marina's and explain your situation??? you may get a bit more help if you speak to people direct instead of sending letters or emails,
  17. I can do one with roses and castles for the newbies LOL
  18. The thing is I just get on with it and I'll help anyone, just can't be doing with people who can't look after themselves. SORRY
  19. Dean's a CC'er and I doubt he's a member of a specific boat club, I think we can all give Dean the answers to the question's he's asking but if you can't get the simple basics that a CC'er should know before setting out right ie; Nicholson Guides, size of your fuel tank, approx daily fuel consumption, route planning, battery charging etc etc it makes you wonder what's going and is the advice sinking into the grey matter??????????
  20. Instead of trying to work out your fuel in inches???????, why don't you work out your fuel tank capacity in ltrs, should be fairly easy if your putting in exactly 20lts, that way you could work out your fuel consumption daily instead of the inche's thing, easy
  21. Just buy yourself an up-to date Nicholson guide and get on with it! what happens if you can't get a signal for the internet? there is a boat yard at Knottingley used to sell or you could divert to Goole, quite quick once you get off the New Junction as there are no locks, fill up, buy yourself a Nicholson guide and another Jerry can. I though CC'ers were able to be self suffient and just go anywhere? obviously not
  22. Just watched the One Show bit and I'm wondering, probably like most of the people who watched it who have nothing to do with the canals or narrowboats, then again probably also the people who do know about the canals and have a narrowboat. What does Mr Davies do for a living? has he a job or had one recently? anything?
