  1. It was ripe, I just wanted to make fondu Now I want to try it with garlic and rosemary. I'm allergic to fish so cooking mackerel would be a very bad idea. lol Even the smell of it makes me retch worse than burnt cheese. The smell is still just about there. The side of the stove that the cheese was on now looks cleaner than the rest thank to the oil. Might have to do the same to the other side now.
  2. Yep we spent last night with the boat doors open and the fire blasting. smells loads better today but it's still there. Just had to sit next to a stranger on the bus. I wonder what he thought the smell was! :-/
  3. Image by Fireside Fortune, on Flickr The ice was pretty thin by the time they came past but it was the first boat i've seen go past for a while so fun all the same. Swans are stood out on it now so maybe its got a bit thicker again.
  4. Haha brilliant! All the cheese has now left the boat but it still smells so bad. I think my work mates are going to wonder why I stink tomorrow lol. Might have to hang my work clothes out under the cratch.
  5. We have on occation got a whole soft cheese from the cheese shop near my work. We've left them on the stove for a while then enjoyed dipping garlic bread and veggies into it. Today we had a nice camembert in a little box. I'd left it on the stove for a while but it was still not quite soft enough so I moved it to the back of the stove where it's a bit warmer but put it on a trivit to stop it getting to hot... Or so I thought! I went to chop the veg then suddenly heard sizzling! Argh! The box had split sending melted cheese all over the top of the stove! We've cleaned up everywhere, the dog enjoyed helping getting the bits it dropped on the way to the kitchen side but I think this stentch of melted cheese is going to be around for a long while yet! Lesson learned atleast put a plate under the wheel of cheese next time!
  6. All the ones I listed are proper local farmers markets just doing mostly good local food. If you want tat theres the Gloucester car boot sale on wednesday and Saturday oposite the rowing club. Gets really busy over summer.
  7. Gloucester farm market in the city centre ever Friday. Over Farm Market 30 minutes walk from the docks. I can do almost all our shopping here. Great butchers and an animal park thing to wander around after you've done your shopping. Oh and a tea room to. Stroud farmers market every Saturday and one of the best in the country bit hard to get to without a car though. Maybe 6 miles cycle depending on where you moor. Bristol Wednesday and Saturday mornings I think.

  9. We had rubbish snow then it rained icey rain and washed it all away. Still iced in though. The only thing that moved yesterday by us was what looks like a large trip boat from Poole. Someone managed to stick their car in the hedge after going over the bridge by us. I'm suprised the bridge keepers don't grit as soon as we get weather like this. It's not like they've got much else to do. Apparently someone gritted after this car went off the road.
  10. Sounds about as good as our local news reporters. They are lucky if they can get the spelling and grammar right in the title of a news report.
  11. THanks i'll check what they are when I get home. They were sealed in the box in another plastic wraping thing. Didn't look like it had been opened before so i'm fairly certain this are the batterys it was supposed to come with. I think i've got some rechargable 2,300ma's in my camera I might give them a go see how long it lasts for. I really hope its just the batteries as this was the only DAB rechargeable battery radio I could afford at the moment.
  12. Did the police write that? Took me three attempts at reading the first paragraph of the notice/letter to work out what was going on. Its a terrible thing to happen though, leaving them in that state to. Whats wrong with these folk.
  13. Yep set it to charge its deffiently taking a little charge each time. If the shop don't have a replacement they can just give me my money back then I'll be back to square one so I really want to try to get this one to work. Might just try a really long charge and see what happens.
  14. I can't remember what the expected run time was but I'm sure it should be more than 15-20 minutes! It was the last one of this model in the shop and heavily reduced so if we take it back we'll have to pay more for the new model or have a totally different one so I'm eager to try and get this one to work if I can.
  15. Yep batteries that were in the box.
  16. Second morning of waking up to ice on the Gloucester Sharpness this morning it's totally iced over. I'm sure it took more cold days last year to get to that state. Could really do with going for water sometime soon but we do have a plastic drum to fill up if needed. I thought the fire had gone out this morning it was so cold on the boat, but no still going just that freezing cold that it felt like it had gone out.
  17. This one said 7 hours for the first charge in the instructions so I thought I was giving it a bit extra at 10 hours lol. Would it do any harm if I left it for the weekend on charge?

  19. Ok I'm now the owner of one of these lovely Roberts DAB radios but I can't seem to get it to hold its charge. I've charged it on my bf parents house leccy for about 10 hours 3 times and it still won't last longer than about 5 minutes. Am I doing something wrong. Do I need to try different batteries? I'm well disappointed.
  20. I have a modern trad to and turn mine off over night although we have only been using this current set up for just over a week so it's still early days. Never felt any condensation in the box it's in but then I guess it depends on the set. I find it so much easier to get a bit cold and turn the inverter off than turn the plugs off Esspecially if I forget to turn something like the fridge back on again, :-/
  21. Ooh! I'd love to do this but I'm not qualified or competent.
  22. I got so many misserable wotsits in my shop last year that still moaned about the weather constantly. I liked the ones that moaned about how much rain we'd had when I'd been up the allotment daily for months watering because we didn't have any rain! I think it's mostly people who rarely leave the house that don't seem to know how nice it is out. We've got plenty of wood could do with a bit more water but we do have a plastic drum so can walk to get water if the taps don't freeze. Although I've yet to see much ice on the Gloucester sharpness so I think we'll be fine. Would like to be snowed in this week, last full week of work before I'm redundant. Not looking forward to it!
  23. I use the tune in app on my iPhone it is great but its the app that drains the battery the quite quick. To quick for me to use for any length of time on the boat. We have a car stereo on the boat and although the saved channels do go when the battery is disconnected it takes about two minutes to find them again. I got one of the Roberts dab radios the other day that just does radio. Its on charge at the moment though so I cant say how good it is yet.
  24. Other than the power issues I'd also be worried about banging into something or someone banging into me with enough force to break the viv. Sounds like a brave man that has tropical fish on his boat!
