  2. I suppose one day, by some miracle somebody might actually understand how the Thames is run and how the river reacts to rising water levels. Alas not yet

  7. A friend of mine has a morso squirel fire. It has developed an oddity, the main door keeps opening for no apparent reason. The fire was resited and the old screw holes used. This have been taken out, so the fire is not secure. Any suggestions of a cause or cure
  8. Two important questions you need to ask. What do you want to use the boat for, living on or CC. Also where are you going to keep it. If you are based on the canal system. a wide beam is better as they don't have a deep draft on them, unlike DB which can draw 3ft. Also you have to consider bridge height. Most DB have a wheel house which can restrict you on the canal system. If you are going to be based on a river, go for a DB as they offer good all round value for money and you have no restrictions like you do on the canals

  15. Over half the River Thames weirs are fully drawn, even the Jubilee river( Maidenhead relief channel) has been drawn. Prob an average speed of 4-5 mph which will increase around bridges and other manmade objects in the River. Suggestion, stay off the river, if your already on it, find a safe haven and stay put, here endeth the lecture.

  18. I got a diagram from the National Waterwys Museum of a Josher backcabin, it gives dimensions and also indications of what type of wood to use. It cost me a fiver but that was some time ago. Of course depending on how much space you have you can always ask for different type of boat.
  19. If you find out let me know so I can hang around with them as well.
  20. Gas mains bridge between the River Thames and Blakes lock on the River Kennet will have a reduction in height to all navigaton throughout the period whilst essential maintenance work is caaried out by the owners. The height shoud not be less than 3 meters at any time.
