  1. West Mids fit Fire Angel alarms.Sealed 10 year power cell. You cannot remove the battery. They state in the papperwork that they are toast proof and have a hush facility, push button to silence for 10 minutes, then auto reset.

  4. Telegraph poles are another source to be avoided , as older ones are treated with CCA.
  5. Tim,that looks good.It also gives me an idea of what colour the engine should be.Do you know what the stainless tank is attached to that engine ? Is it a catch tank for the oil?
  6. Heating up to de stress it sounds good.I have also been told that grit blasting may have a similar effect ? Heres some pics of the cracks. The expansion pot is very heavy, I estimate at least 150 kg.Still cant decide if its best to just try and remake in stainless, which will be much lighter.
  7. Thanks I will look at metal stitching.I will get some pics up soon with progress.
  8. I will try to get some pics tomorrow. Its cast Iron,I have spoken to 2 welding firms, one woulnt do it and the other said he would give it a go but wouldnt know how it would go till he started, due to age, condition.I might try it and see how the repair goes.
  9. The Kromhout I have has a large cylinder silencer/expansion pot which is cracked. If I remake this in stainless will it matter if i make it rectangular, keeping the same internal volume ? I know it uses this expansion box for scavaging, does the shape of the chamber matter? I could keep the standard size, shape, but it is a tight fit in the boat. Also it will end up about 30mm out of line with the shaft. Will a universal type joint cope reliably with this or can anyone recomend one of the flexible drives on the market. Cheers.
  10. I have a prop that other than RH has some numbers stamped on it. 11325 & 781635. Are these likely to be manufacturers marks or do they indicate pitch & size? Im used to seeing it as : 22 x 19 for example. Cheers.
  11. Thanks , I will have a look at the blog.
  12. I have found a secondhand prop i wish to use,but its a 2.5" shaft size and i need it to be 2".Has anyone used a shim ,machined to fit in the keyway ,to reduce the shaft size? Is this a reliable method? Cheers.
  13. I had just directed you to the web site.
  14. Sorry,I need to read all of the post!!!
  15. Im not sure if they make them smaller than 50mm. Ive seen them in caravan shops for around £16. I ground this one down to 40 mm and it could have gone smaller.
  16. My diesel filler is the type that comes through the roof of the engine room. Ive been thinking of a way of securing it without having to drill a hole through and adding a padlock. Ive used a 50 mm towing hitch lock.It works by drawing a wedge shaped piece of metal up into the body and spreading the 2 sides apart,so wedging it in the pipe. Then the lock is inserted, preventing the allen bolt being undone. I had to cut/grind quite a bit off ,but its perfect for the job.If your filler was 50mm it would go straight in. The plastic strap is to draw it out once its undone. With cap on you wouldnt know its there.
  17. Thankyou for your swift response.
  18. Im changing my cabin lights to LEDs .From an existing light im changing to 5 ,1 watt LEDs over a 3 meter run.The cable i have is : Flat Twin Thin Wall 2.0mm2 RED/BLACK cable is rated to 25 Amps . This Thin Wall cable is constructed with 28 strands at 0.30mm Could anyone confirm or otherwise that this cable is up to the job ? Many thanks.
  19. Old main line , Oldbury ,near Savacentre is quite popular.
  20. Richard, Trouble with 45 foot ,engine room and Tug deck is I think it leaves very little living space. 57 would seem to be minimum? I stand to be corrected. Best regards,Kevin.
  21. Thanks for the link Florence is up for sale at the moment , though we may still take last minute bookings. Kevin.
  22. An old boatman told me that you could set up the trim on an old working boat so that the counter was well out of the water, and a wooden wedge was attached to the counter to deflect water downwards.Much like Liam said an anti cavitation device. This set up would do similar, retaining water around the prop if the tips were piercing the water. I think!!!
  23. Just seen an ad for new boats from Severn Valley, On Apollo Duck. Gives address as Sharpness. Is it the same lot that were in Stourport and caused so much grief ?
