  1. Pre purchase survey on my new boat this week, and this topic is interesting. Assuming we go ahead what if anything can i expect off broker before i transfer money ?
  2. Because 3 years ago it was 4 years old. And problems possibly on the way. But yes no real reason to change.
  3. We and previous governments have been sleepwalking through this upcoming disaster for years. Fossil fuels need to be replaced, yes but there is no alternative currently that is sufficiently developed. I live off grid, by that I mean in a house away from mains gas. I have renovated it over last 3 years to be as green as possible. PV panels and Air Source Heat pump. The government should be proud of me but in this period they have withdrawn feed in tarrifs for PV ( already drastically reduced from early figures ) and i understand the Renewable Heat Incentive for the ASHP is to be withdrawn. Three years ago i had a Lexus Hybrid, road tax £25. Now i have a new one same engine, road tax £ 150. Boris wants us to ditch fossil fuels but with all incentives to do so removed. With electric cars also becoming the desired option we must look at electric. Unfortunately the country cannot produce sufficient electric power to feed the future demand. And now they are wasting time by condeming wood burners, another heat source gone.
  4. Am now on yanmar site and the numbers match sorry to appear thick in any case it is the service intervals I was interested in.
  5. Yep agree. It is shire 38 using 3TNV yanmar base engine. But not sure how these numbers relate to list on shires site . According to the downloaded manual 4 TNV is type number forthe 38
  6. Just looking for manual for engine in NB am about to buy. Confused at Barras numbering system. See photo, can anyone explain how the numbers relate to engines listed on Barras website
  7. Welcome to a trying, stressful but hopefully rewarding journey. Just buy a boat, someone said. Yeh....ok....
  8. Thanks, have been told it is a Narrowcraft hull, made in Gdansk. Also told that for a 12 year old boat i shouldn't have too much to worry about.....but i will worry anyhow....
  9. Just read through this post and have followed advice. My search of vendor on here has thrown up some interesting comments. my deposit has been lodged in brokers client account according to SH. No receipt just e mail confirming receipt of funds, however said account was not listed as a client account. I think lodging funds with a solicitor should be common practice, it is a large purchase, we are throwing money at an unregulated industry it appears.
  10. My earlier reply was not intended to be flipant nor referring to a nanny state. Maintenance is key, sweep flue regularly and use seasoned logs. Regulations are coming in, meaning all logs sold must be graded as kiln dried or equivilant with no moisture content. One question, do you need a HETAS certified person to fit a stove on a boat? You are required to in domestic applications.
  11. Well, am 65 now and every house have lived in has had either wood burner / open fire / solid fuel range and am still here. If the flu is drawing I cannot see how any significant level of fumes should enter room or boat.
  12. Yes Steve Hands was the surveyor. He did flag up several issues which i think have or woukd have been rectified before completion. I rejected both boats for other reasons. However if i had decided to buy either am not sure what I would have done in regards to my own independant survey.
  13. Thanks all. This is not an ex hire boat but advertised as low hours, i think around 700 without checking the add again. Serial number suggests circa 2005 onwards. I have found the online service manual. Hour meter appears to be digital rather than analogue so am wondering if it can be rebooted. Anyhow one for post survey negotiations
  14. Revisited boat yesterday and ran the engine etc. All working ok but engine hours not showing on rev counter. The boat is advertised with quoted low hours but is there further proof of hours available, for instance service book? I need to be sure it is as low as advertised
  15. Full survey booked with Ricky Tropman but not till early January.
  16. Just rang Overwater and they have only 1 vacancy. Am going to see them later in week, also said it was hard to accomodate 45ft boats. I guess they prefer the bigger ones Thanks to all who have replied.
  17. Having just bought my first boat I am in same position, where do i moor it? I am in same region and like the look of Overwater. We will be cruising often, hopefully, rather than static in marina. New to boating so not sure of what represents a days cruising. When leaving Overwater Marina, how long to get to Barbridge ? Am thinking a day?
  18. Already e mailed him and can't do it, too busy
  19. They reccomended Gerry Ridge of Ridge Marine Surveying. Any one have any experience of him?
  20. Ok, so next thing is survey. They have kindly reccomended one and given me his details, but being the cynical person i am, I feel should get my own. Any reccomendations for good surveyor? Boat is in Nantwhich, Cheshire. I was also asked if it was hull or full survey i wanted, any thoughts ? Thanks again in advance.
  21. Yep ? subject to survey of course. A cheeky offer did it ! Thanks for all advice offered. I will keep you all posted as the story develops
