  7. A bit like Carl using "referenda" eh?

  9. Thinking of getting one of these. Anyone got any experience?
  10. Exactly and people like Laurence and you, in calling it crap, are falling for it. I think that it is a bit paranoid to suppose that this is a deliberate ploy though. It doesn't matter a damn what the logo looks like in the greater scheme of things. Some on here like it, some don't. That was bound to happen whatever the design proposed.
  11. I must admit that I think that whinging about the logo is pretty trivial given everything else that is happening.
  12. The engine thermostat should prevent that happening. Water will only circulate once it is up to normal running temperature.
  13. What the hell does it matter? It will soon be recognised as the C&RT logo. Any alternative will have it's detractors - some people like to moan about anything new. If you hate it that much then why not put some proposals yourself?
  14. My Liverpool boat had the system described which soon worked loose so the prvious owners had the rudder welded to the tiller shaft. This will cause problems if and when I want to replace the bearing.
  15. I have one and it is useless apart from looking pretty. It has so little power that you can stop it with your finger without risk of hurting yourself. Physically there is no way that such a weak device can move enough air to disturb the natural convection currents. Snake oil.
  16. It could also be a leak between the tank and the pump.
  17. I'd dispute that. Both are poor sound insulators. As an ex sound engineer I can assure you that there are only two things that will prevent sound transmission - a vacuum or mass. In other threads people have stated things like open cell foam is a sound insulator. Ridiculous as open cell foam is used for microphone windshields and designed to let sound through. Recording studios often have foam panels (Used to be egg boxes!)around the walls. These are to prevent the sound reflecting from hard surfaces and are necessary to make the studio "dead" acoustically so that the required effects can be added electronically.

  19. What does he want it for then? Perhaps to direct those who type it in by mistake to his site.
  20. It seems that it couldn't be called anyhting with "British" and "Waterways" because British Waterways Scotland is to continue. It is a trust. It is responsible for canals and rivers. Therefore Canal & River Trust seems perfectly reasonable to me. I can't think of any funny jokes using the word "CART" - only weak ones. The logo is a bit fussy but what the hell does that matter? We'll all get used to it in no time.

  23. Over time the water will find its way past bearers etc. They are not usually sealed to the base plate. Our boat has bearers on the base plate but the burst last winter ran to the rear port side.
