  1. Yes thats right but Garry did have a outboard on it he was having trouble with! Not sure of HP 70??
  2. When I come up to view the Victoria I could have a look if it is near by-where is it again Carl?
  3. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!! humm 12k-boy I see-wow thats amazing-I know its quite difficult-is it on hardstanding now? Does it have to be oak? I mean I can see the aesthetics of authenticity but does it NEED to cost this much?-Is there a cheaper modern equivalent? Does it HAVE to be traditional? Is the engine any good?? How bad is it? I think I last saw the Lichfield towards Braunston? Rich Americans out there?? Is there any one who could simply store these boats and we could work out a plan of salvage-alright to say I suppose-Just very sad-these are historic and should be rescued!!
  4. Wheres Gary? Why has he left it? I mean I am fixing up my boat! I would NOT leave her to rot! I know it isn't easy-I am not sure how to even get the engine going at this stage!! But I will not abandon the boat, no way-The trouble is I have no idea how or if I can get the engine started but I wont give up- Where is the Lichfield? I would love to take a look-Is it near Hillmorton? I thought it was famous as it was a hotel boat, I think? Cant we do something about these lost boats-cant we atleast put her somewhere-is it that bad? When u say its out of the water where is she? cheers Carl.
  5. Cant we save her Carl?? I would like to help?? What do u think? I can travel no problems.
  6. Is that Gary's boat? I am sure a book has been wriiten about the Lichfield?
  7. I am afraid so Sue-I thought it was sorted and everyone said it was fine suddenly it isn't-Its being pumped out by Foxtons-I am due back in 3 weeks-not soon enough-it will be re-floated and I will have to rebuild it-I will have to start again-I can do it but we have to resettle first in the country-
  8. Heffs-U are in Banbury? u can PM if u like-I can help u alot, as I have gone through the "baptism of fire or is that water" -I can help u avoid the mistakes that I have made!! What do u think?
  9. I had the same problem "with smoke"when I parked the other side of the bridge at Newbold moorings-I wondered why no one was there! It is where u can run aground if u r not careful!- BW said the houses complained of smoke from the woodstove-Just dont feel wanted as though we are a "nuisance" and are moved on constantly....
  10. Alex is a great guy-but he said he wasn't taking on any more boats-but it might have changed-this was 2008.
  11. Welcome-If there is ANYTHING u would like to know it is with the greatest of pleasure -I can fill u in-as I am a "an NQT" of canal boating but seen "interesting" aspects of living on the canals-u can PM me if u desire.
  12. After reading about the sunken boat in Cambridge and my own problems I am would like to think about forming some sort of IR -I dont know how or what at this stage but something has to be done to reestablish my faith in the "community of the canals" that Biggles has suggested-I dont know what it was like in the past but I am sure if someone was in trouble then action would have been taken before it was too late-the trouble is with this proposal the canals are so vast, it seems quite daunting but I want to give back something back to the canal community who have helped me in the past-The philosophy of the International Rescue show was to go to peoples aid when called upon and was NOT Government backed, worried about insurance, and wasn't paid!! There just wait for it, cared I would like to set up a similar service but how? Where would Tracy Island go? Maybe the Isle of Wight? But seriously it would have to be a non-profit outfit-Mayby I am just dreaming....(again) Anyways its an idea...
  13. Well there u are-I know how he would feel!!
  14. The threads open again-It is at the boatyard as we speak-the good folks are having a look in the cabin to check if any water-the oil is being cleared and I am fitting the hand held pump-with Carls help every two weeks this should sort it till I am back. I have taken your advice about engine revamp if needed-I would rather make sure she can float first-yes and we will get a new tarpulin-thanks for everyones in put-
  15. Agreed-Hope your wife makes a full recovery-my aunt just died-keep me informed.
  16. Thanks Carl I do appreciate, i do-the trouble is the boatyard will not store it-they have offered to remove the oil and take the engine apart for under 1000 but it will have to go back to the BW mooring I am paying for-so I am worried now having only had 2 hours sleep I feel awful and I am STILL worried as it could happen again and BW will be at me again-so I need a firm solution to work with-so this wont happen-It will be only a short time-atleast it isn't that poor butty that sank with wind turbine still working!
  17. OK I think we will leave it now-U have misunderrstood-thats not what I meant-look this is what I I dislike about forums-u dont actually know what or who I am or sound like-I will leave it at that and inform the people who have been kind to me-did u read the post my wife sent? Thats what it is-OK I have made a mistake and if u want to help fine if u want to make nasty remarks (without reprecussions) when I am down, thats your choice And its not a tub its a canal boat that i love. It might be old, ugly but its all I have left of England..... Is that a Blue Tit or a great Tit by the way
  18. I am sorry u feel like that Carl-Ok, that really is OK-I appreciate your advice and help before-that "incident" was terrible and I feel it is yet another reason I will have to consider the future on the canals-As I said I feel when I get back I will take the boat out fix it and sell and not go on the canals as I feel it hasn't worked-I would prefer a new boat for sure and move constanly or be in a marina-I might try again later -in other words the live-on-the-canals idea hasn't worked and the constant maintenance for an old boat and the problems associated with it, BW, expense and the nuisance I have caused is too much. Its not worth effecting your health for or the worry of it-It is hard enough looking after a house which i will have to do and working to pay for it! I will be looking for dryland to start with-any in the rugby area? I could then work on the boat without fear of having to move it on or engine failure and breaking in-I probably will go back to LB to look there. Not sure at this stage-atleast its afloat and not at the bottom-thats something!!! Thanks for the positive advice-I sure appreciated that. There is no shore power as its a BW permanent mooring-solar panal-tied to a battery-thats quit good idea but again I am not there to set it up-How would it work?YES the bilge losing power, thats a massive problem---All I need is something for 3 months or maybe less. Great idea.
  19. Latest...the boat has had 20 inches of water pumped out of the engine compartment-it is now refloated however it has been suggested that I get the oil out at the yard as suggested above-the engine / fuel system and gearbox are full of water - the water was covering the gearbox and was over the fuel pump. It will be quite expensive to fix. However once fixed it will be going again but I still have the problem of looking after "the cat"-so I will have to have help as I wont be back till April. I will ask the boatyard for advice and get in contact with people I know-as I said I am not asking for any more help from the forum-If anyone would like to help or has a boat nearby then feel free to contact me-As it will need looking at ever 2 weeks to make sure the water doesn't do this again-Someone suggested I seal the deck with gaffer tape, taurpaulin and maybe plywood to stop this as it has a huge stern-The problem is I am not there-so I will need to stop this, somehow. I will return the favour to anyone, as I am an artist-I can paint as I restored the tiller of a butty not long ago-I can do anthing even lookling after other people's boats if u like-anyways I will have to get advice on prevention now so this WONT HAPPPEN AGAIN-a new bilge pump could do it? If anyone has an idea here-the boatyard might advise on this- thankyou for the support so far.
  20. This is boatbot's wife here, boatbot has been up all night long worrying about our canal boat. It means so much to him and he has had the most awful year. We are doing our best to get back to England, but with family and work concerns, it has taken longer than expected. Yes, boatbot has made a few mistakes and he is frustrated by them. Please don't make too much judgement on him because he will be the first to help anyone in need. sometimes people need help more than once. I know he is so very greatful to the kindness people have given him and it makes him proud to be British. Again thankyou to those who have shown concern, we intend to return in a few weeks and we now have someone who is going to tow it to their boat yard to sort the problem. I would like to wish you all a happy new year. BBt's wife
  21. Thankyou, I am encouraged by your words-
  22. Thats what i should have done-I should have sealed the compartment-I did cover with taurpalin but it must have shifted with the weather-its is a cruiser stern quite a big one-the gutters would be overflowing into te compartment-has it really rained that much?
  23. Actually I really liked the show Voyage to the bottom of the sea...
  24. Boy some people can be really nasty-I just need a hand at the moment and YES I have had problems but now I am back with my family we are sorting things out and I have under estimated the canals and how difficult it is-in fact BW hadn't heard of anyone having so much trouble-I will need to be orgainised including BW requirements-I was actually ill over October with kidney stones so I was in hospital ands being so far away isn't easy and I wont do this again-
