Sorry if my terminology is incorrect, for clarification (I hope) we were travelling north, all the locks were empty, and the gates at the far end of the lock from us open, we had to close the gates and paddles fill the locks, 5 of them, open the gate and enter the lock.
Came up the staffs and worc today from Autherley to just north of Penkridge. Most of the locks were against us from Gailey but when we got to Penkridge somebody had gone through the locks and left the downstream gates open and the paddles up much to my wife’s annoyance. I hope this was just a one off and we were unlucky. Fortunately we never caught up with the offender as the Mrs was revving.
Otherwise it was a beautiful days boating.
I’m booked into a dry dock for blacking and the wharf wants me there on the Sunday afternoon so first thing Monday morning they can get me in. I know it’s quite busy where they are, so what’s the etiquette of mooring alongside another boat? Just ask? Are most boaters receptive to this happening for one night?
It’s a beautiful boat and a credit to the previous owners who cherished it and looked after it. We’re feel very fortunate to have ‘dropped on’ this narrowboat. You would not believe it is a 16 year old boat.
Not that I’ve noticed
Mine doesn’t, when I bought mine for the mh I asked about charging via inverter and the chap said at least a 600w one, I have a 1000w so I was ok.
I bought one of these https://www.asbikes.co.uk/ good quality and the aftersales is exceptional should you need it. I’m 18 stone and the bike handles me ok ?. I forgot to mention that I have the 26” wheel folding version, battery is good for approx 20 miles with me on it, it does struggle on very steep hills with my weight but on the flat it flies.
sorry if it’s been already Posted, I did a search but didn’t find anything. If you are ex forces you can apply for a DDS card https://www.defencediscountservice.co.uk/index.php
I’ve just used mine to save 10% on GJW boat insurance, better than a poke in the eye with a barge pole.
Thanks for the replies everybody, next question is the boat is currently moored on the Shropshire union at Shebdon, any recommendations for a yard to do the job? Doesn’t have to be close as long as I can live onboard during the job.
I’ve just purchased a NB that has had the hull blacked in 2 pack epoxy but it is ready for re doing due to age, I knew this when I bought it and this was included in the purchase price. Question is can you just jet wash and then reapply over the old 2 pack? Or is there more preparation required?
Hello again, I initially joined over a year ago asking the knowledgable on here several questions(there are more to come) Finally, after several months touring in the motorhome around Europe the wife and I have finally decided a NB is for us, so after viewing several over the last few weeks we’ve bought one. A lovely trad stern 55ft. So glad to be back and hope to be welcomed as a new ‘green’ boater.
Don't forget to give them a quick suck with the Hoover every now and again to clear them of any dust as this can reduce the sensitivity. Most smoke alarms use optical sensors.
