  1. I was just reading about it on their site. I'm quite impressed by their facilities. This is their blasting-house: Willy Wonka would feel at home! I'll get a quote for the zinc and two-pack.
  2. Yes, they do, thanks. Thanks, I'll look into these too. And zinc coating as I'm not sure what it is exactly.
  3. Where did you get it done? And do they do grit-blasting?
  4. Thanks Cuthound; that's good to know. I guess I'll get it done and then go south for the winter and hope for the best. Do you (or anyone) have any recommendation about where to get it done?
  5. I had my boat blacked a couple of years ago in September. The following January the canal froze for a couple of days and when I moved about the boat the ice must have rubbed at the paint, because by the summer it was showing signs of rust. What a waste of money that was. My question: Is Two-pack paint more resistant to this? Any other tips (apart from "don't move") would be much appreciated.
  6. I went down the Atherstone flight on Saturday morning. I'm not sure of the time exactly but it was around 8am. There was no one there when I arrived (including volunteers). I used the services and whilst waiting for my water to fill, the volunteers turned up, closely followed by three boats. My tank filled just as the third boat was going into the lock. When I was in the second lock another boat could be seen in the first. At lock nine there were 3 boats queuing to go up. I think through the whole flight I only had to wait at one lock for a couple of minutes while those in front went down. I only did 2 locks alone as there were a lot of boats coming up and they all offered assistance (which was nice). I'd say about 10 boats have passed this morning and now it's very quiet (seems like this every day).
  7. I was merely stating how I read your post, and agreeing with the other posters conclusion. I'm not sure why you think I'm trying to pick a fight but that is also your decision I suppose. ?
  8. But was it relevant? Your inclusion of it would suggest so, in your eyes at least.
  9. I think I moaned about something in that thread (yes, how unlike me). I'll see if I can find it. ETA: This is the thread: I spoke to the person in the video regarding my concerns about reverse osmosis filters and he assured me his wasn't one. Even so, I think I'll stick to tap water filtered through the silver thingy I have.
  10. I use Three and am generally happy with their service. However, I spent some time back in London over the winter and the speed was terrible, especially in peak hours (evenings and weekends). The signal was strong but far too many users. I'd imagine it would be the same in most large cities. I have no idea if this is relevant to you but thought I'd mention it.
  11. Perhaps you should go back for a refresher course.

    Solar System

I tested this using a cable of known size (6mm 2) and some Vernier Calipers. It came out to 6.0239016. Very good!

Yes, this is what I meant. Thanks!

    Solar System

Thanks. Site bookmarked. I should probably replace the cables going form the solar controller to the battery banks, as they are probably rated for the old solar panels which were only 35% of what I now have. The one to the starter battery looks particularly thin. In fact maybe I should replace all the cables. I'm not sure what size they are but I'll look into. If I measure the diameter of a non-solid cable (threaded?), is that accurate enough to find the area using pi?

I would guesstimate 3ft. I'm loath to lift up the floor for the second time today as my back is aching from last time!

What size cable would you recommend? I have one alternator at ~125A and the other at 90A Thank you both ?

It's a real mess isn't it. Looking at that wiring diagram, I think this relay would not only switch the solar, but also the alternator. I have separate alternators for my two banks, so would this be a problem? I can't think of any but thought I'd ask anyway. I think I would just end up with both alternators charging both banks (when the relay is activated)?

    Solar System

    Ah I understand now. Thanks.

So, to understand this more: The live from the controller goes through its fuse, then into the split charge relay. Then two lives come out, one to the domestic bank and one to the starter. The relay switches over at 13.7v. Is that correct?

    Solar System

    Fair enough ? Thanks again.
  21. The two are not mutually exclusive.

    Solar System

Unfortunately not. Yes, that is a lot of loss. It's fine in this weather because I have loads of spare solar energy. But in the winter months this could become a problem. The relay sounds like a good solution as the cables are already in place from near the controller to the starter battery. I shall look into it more. Thank you both. ETA: I suspect this may be a stupid idea but I'll ask it anyway. Could I connect the panels to both controllers and use one each on the domestic and starter batteries? i.e. a loop from one controllers input to the other.
  23. The OP has stated that they spoke to CRT and that they have no objections to the journey. Those in the thread quoting CRT guidance and defending their interpretation of it should now accept that they are wrong.
  24. I strongly suspect most people who are against this are sitting at home in their houses, struggling with the green-eyed monster.
