  2. So the grey/pale blue thing is an expansion vessel. Thanks Numerous cracked tiles there and in the bathroom. I've sheared the head off a couple of the screws fixing the steps in position already, and I haven't yet found out how they fixed them at the bulkhead. The joys... Once they're out I'll also have access the the bottom of the electrics cupboard which I do have a small level of understanding.
  3. Useful, thanks. The steps at the stern make getting at the C kind of difficult. Next thing is going to be working out how to remove them.
  4. Thanks Tony I meant the blue/green deposit on the pipework. Probably just some kind of copper salt. Unfortunately I have less than any clue about plumbing. Engine coolant seems to have dumped itself out under the engine which may be relevant though I suppose that could be from the Webasto. I'll give the marina office a ring in the morning. Unfortunately it's two hours each way from home to the boat which is a little inconvenient when stuff needs sorting. Thanks Jen The cabin bilge was wet when we left the boat last which is why I was back today to try to work out where the water was coming from. Other threads have mentioned leaking PR valves but I don't actually know what that looks like. There's a valve kind of thing on the top of the calorifier, is that it? And the red knob? I'm going to struggle to identify which of the various pipes is what - there must be heating coils from the engine and Webasto as well as the cold in and hot out (my guess is the hot out is from the top!) and I have no idea how to tell the difference between an accumulator and an expansion vessel. Thanks Matty The original installation was probably good, it's likely to be a combination of lack of knowledge on my part and lockdown last winter that's caused the situation. Thanks Bee I might try that on my own but the boss isn't likely to be impressed with the prospect of no hot water for a fortnight. To be honest neither am I.
  5. This is the view of the top of the calorifier. I have never had the cupboard open before: it appears to be necessary to dismantle it.
  6. It has split on its own. Water has been off for two weeks, I didn't turn it on when I was at the boat today. I don't know what the blue/green stuff is...
  7. I've been using Macs since system 6 (30+ years ago). For a while I worked in IT support for the NHS and had to use Windows. I then moved sideways to be a data analyst. I even had a Windows box at home for a few months. I know far too much about what goes wrong with them to ever have one under my roof again. The Macs keep going for 7 or more years, no antivirus. The only time I upgrade is when the machine won't support the latest OS and then not always: the iMac I share with my wife is 11 years old and went out of support about 4 years ago. Not a problem for what we use that for, my laptop (MacBook Air) is less than a year old though.
  8. Sorry, should have mentioned I'm at Yelvertoft Marina if anyone knows someone who might be able to help.

  10. We've a had a problem with water appearing at the stern of the cabin. Now I know why. I think this may have put paid to our plan to have a fortnight out at the end of the month Don't really have the confidence to replace this myself. Can take other photos
  11. That's a pretty vague question. I've bought from ebay in the past and been perfectly happy. You might also try your local Mac User Group for nearby options.
  12. If I'm reading this table correctly it seems the chemistry for PbC cells is slightly better than for Lead-acid: you get back 100/106% of the energy put in. Somehow I doubt it's that simple in reality.
  13. Horses for courses, methinks. I see pros and cons on either side; if you can afford the outgoings for the property you want it's a question of personal preference.
  14. Why do you need 100 tonne crane? Your boat will be <20tonnes.

  20. Which may be the best choice for them. The benefit of renting is all the maintenance that you would do yourself when younger is now somebody else's responsibility. The downside is you're now depending on someone else to sort it out. tbh this is not much different from the situation some less able people find themselves in while still owning and living in their own home - reliant on others to maintain the fabric of the property with the added difficulty of needing to organise it themselves.
