  1. or perhaps.... Although they would need to be trained to stay off the paths when no longer flooded.
  2. I am curious: why? I noticed the comments under the Oxford Mail article quoted at the top of this thread, universally condemning the cyclist in the photo for the danger in cycling through the water. It looked pretty straightforward to me, hard to miss the path under the foot of water and - assuming i did not mind getting my feet wet - if i needed to get to the other side, I would have cycled it without a second thought.
  3. I think it's ok as long as you're wearing a helmet.
  4. another use for oxford tow and cycle paths....
  5. ah yes, that is another way to screw this up. The shower tray is a small bath tub, so i expect it will be noticed, but one more thing to think about. Thanks.
  6. thanks Alan, is the danger that the valve is left open? In which case, the tub fills up like before, so that is ok. Or that it is left closed and the pump turned on, and it ?? [burns itself out?] trying to suck past the NRV? I like the safety tag idea!
  7. now that i have had a good look at it... is another option to fix this to put a piece of kit in the drain pipe [a stopcock?] between the tub drain and the pump. Turn it off when not pumping out the bathtub, back on for whenever the tub is being drained?

  14. another q: should I expect water **not** to flow back through the Gulper? That is, the Gulper pumps out the bath, some water sits in the hose between the pump and the through hull. I think TheBiscuits got it right in that the drain from the sink connects higher than the gulper pipe, thus filling the pipe back to the Gulper [from where the sink connection joins it]. Grey water then finds its way back through the pump, and into the pipe connecting the pump to the bath, slowly refilling the bath. If i simply do the rotation advised, does that fix it? Or does the fact that water moves back through the not-switched-on Gulper mean there is an issue there? [ie: is there a one way valve that is now two way...] thanks
  15. A basin does share the fitting. It looks clear, but I will do a proper dismantle in daylight. as always, thanks all for the quick and quality information.
  16. as per title, a Whale Gulper empties out the tub, and then over a day or so, it slowly comes back. Not to the same level, though. Am I right to assume something awry with the pump? I can see water dribbling out the drain hole.

  20. It may not have been entirely their idea... [giving the PAC code out by text] https://www.ofcom.org.uk/consultations-and-statements/category-2/consumer-switching-proposals-to-reform-switching-of-mobile-communications-services notably: Our package of reforms included the introduction of a new and simplified way to switch (‘Auto-Switch’) where consumers will be able to request and automatically receive a unique code by text, or through their online account, which they can give to their new provider to switch and port their number (if they wish to do so). The customer requests from their existing provider the switching code – either a PAC (“Porting Authorisation Code”) if he/she wishes to port their number, or an N-PAC (“Non porting Authorisation Code”) if wishing to switch without a port. Customers can request these by text, through their online account, or by speaking to their existing provider over the phone. Which was a step up from the earlier commercially derived position of 'sure you can switch providers, please show up in person to our office in the Outer Hebrides, anytime between the hours of 1am and 2am on 29 February and we will be more than happy to help you out'.
  21. One time, I was at a pool with one of those tall and long covered slides. I came through and behind me was a 3 or 4 year old, who then got up and started crawling up the tunnel to meet his dad... his dad was not small. I ran to the mouth of the tunnel, I could hear the onrushing large man who was about to flatten the young child crawling toward him, & reached down to the pull the child out of the way. Then hesitated a nanosecond as I realised i was about to lay my hands on someone else's child. Fortunately, common sense ruled, and in a scene worthy of a movie I yanked the child out of the way just as 17 stone of speeding dad came out of the tunnel. I reflected afterwards on how it had been that I had hesitated... felt unhappy about it.
  22. and anyone not skippering could do a bit of water skiing at the same time. the original ATCs/ATVs were three wheelers [at least in Canada]. I was handed one at a worksite in the back country as a teen and warned 'careful you don't run over your foot'. How I laughed. Until I ran over my foot. I think there were so many accidents they ended up banning them. A couple years ago, I towed my 70 foot butty a couple miles behind a kayak. Much easier to do then one would think, although making bends required a bit of back and forth.
