Morning all.
Getting together service parts for our Honda outboard. Is there any reason why I can't use a car oil filter as opposed to an outboard filter if the part number matches? Obviously the boat filter is twice the price!
I spoke to the examiner just before posting my message.
He states that, and its mentioned on my paperwork, Hull fittings aren't part of the scheme, but, regulations say that a portable petrol tank must not be capable of spilling into the boat, instead into the canal.
I can't think of any reason to put an open fitting below the water line other than to sink you.
Someone fitted the hull fitting 6" below the water line 😳.
This is supposed to let petrol spills drain out of a tray into the canal..
I'm going to spend a day filling the crazed gel coat anyway.
I've raised the petrol can tray 10"
Well after the void between floor and Hull filled twice we had our viking lifted. Apart from some 'crazed' gel coat up front look at the deliberate mistake.... Pic attached 😭
Aint that the truth.
Had two narrowboats in the past. Spent more time upside down in the engine bay than crusin so thought I'd go yoghurt pot and Honda instead..... Nope 🙄
Well I'm hoping the tank that openly overflows into the Hull is the issue, and the pin holes in the plastic pipe under the sink causing a constant leak ( when the pump is powered up) is the issue. BUT in a canal paranoia sets in.
The boat hasn't been maintained for years and yesterday was our maiden voyage 🛥️.
That's boating...
Hi all, decided that our 10hp viking 2 won't push hard enough against the tide heading from the Liverpool and Leeds..
Anyone have a number for a towing service, or a contact?
Thank you 😊
I'll stop at the first marina I come to and see what they have in their parts bin, yeah wondered how I'd stop the rain going in.
Time being I'll have to fill 3/4 instead.
Ah thanks, I've just emailed amtrim in Preston.
Do you have a rough idea what I'll end up paying for the usual cruiser layout... Dinette and pointy double bed up front 😅
Hi all, fast learning curve here.
Just took possession of our 1996 viking 23 and began filling the fresh water tank. Sheer luck that I had the interior access panels off at the same time because instead of the filler overflowing outside I had water gushing out of a 6 inch rubber breather pipe into the Hull.
Am I right in thinking this hose should extend to an outlet fitting on the Hull just below the fore deck, ie over flow outside?
I think I saw something posted by the CRT stating that there's no longer assistance for single crew boats or boats with someone disabled aboard at the flight on a Thursday. Can anyone confirm or deny this. I'm really not looking forward to 21 locks alone😳
If you share a lock you can't predict how the other captain is going to operate the paddles.
Think I'll sit back n wait till I can plane my yoghurt pot into the lock alone 😜
I have two and we'll worth making as my nearest supplier is 100 mile round trip, or wait for a few days or more for one to be delivered. Have to move my boat tho so can't wait.
